£50 price of Navigon introductory – get it while its cheap!

Navigon released their GPS Navigation app with on-board maps yesterday, and as expected it was pretty pricy at £51.49 or €59.99.

It now turns out the app actually costs €84.99, and that the “lower” price is only an introductory offer.

In terms of map material, users have two versions to choose from: NAVIGON Europe with 44 countries and NAVIGON USA. From 11 October until 15 November NAVIGON Europe will be available at the reduced introductory price of €59.49 instead of €84.99, the US version for €25.99 instead of €42.49. This corresponds to a price discount of around 30 and 39 percent respectively. The app can now be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace to all devices which run the Windows Phone Mango release.

While the price may be steep, it is in fact in line with their Android and iPhone clients, suggesting we better take advantage of the deal before it slips away on the 15th November.

However in these days of $0.99 apps it remains a bitter pill to swallow.

Gives Nokia time to announce their free maps solution in a few weeks, if they don’t then pick up Navigon.

I do not have 2.3 GB of free space on my phone, and I don’t need 44 countries.
Tomtom had a better selection of single maps.

E.g. Garmin Nuvi 255W is £70 (€81 currently) in amazon.co.uk with “full eu mapping” and I’m sure there are cheaper satnavs available.

If satnav software on other phone os’s cost as much (or more!), they’re also way too expensive IMO.

I don’t understand the whining to be honest, the app is a steal at €60 compared to it’s Android and iOS siblings.

As for only wanting a single country, rest assured this will become available soon.

Still more expensive than the US price. Nokia aside, very much wondering at what price TomTom will be offering their maps for windows phone 7. It’s intreaging every time how much more expensive the maps are for Europe. Still I do not know how much has really been invested in the background on keeping the maps uptodate, let alone the enourmous chore of adding all the POI’s. Still wanting to see a review of just how complete the maps and POIs of Navigon are in every day use.

Guys,
I strongly recommend you to wait. I am currently testing another app (beta) that works great and will probably be far less expensive:
- It uses Navteq maps,
- It includes POIs search,
- It let you download ONLY the countries you need (and will not waste 3Gb of your precious storage dowload 40 countries). It uses no more than 700 mb for a big country
- It has Text-to-Speech

Navigon is just a joke. It’s probably a good software, but force you to dowload 44 countries that you will never use is stupid, waste 3Gb of the storage is stupid, ask you to pay $69 for maps you don’t need is stupid.

There’s more to a good sat nav program than price, crucial is map accuracy and the routing algorithm. Navigon is pretty well regarded, so whatever program you are testing will have to be very well done.
