720P screens on a phone impossible? The Qisda QCM-330 disagrees

There has been many Windows Mobile 7 rumours, but the one that made the LG Apollo appear pretty ridiculous was the 720P screen on the device, which frankly appeared impossible last month.

Fats forward 3 weeks however, and we have the Qisda QCM 330, a MID-type device with a 4 inch screen and an amazing 1280x 1024 screen.

The OS is unknown, but likely Android, but that wont stop LG from using a similar screen on their 3.8 inch monster.

Looking at the screen alone, There is no way this will be 1280 x1024. It is elongated like the LG chocolate. Prolly a 1280×600 like the site suggest. Now, That device should have a resolution filter to make the existing apps to work or else, I will be having a Sprint instinct kinda device in my hand.

at CES Balmer said all Windows Phones going into the future will have a dedicated Windows button and I don't see any on this device. so I'm sort of thinking it's not a windows phone

Assuming the render dimensions are accurate, i'd wager it's too thin to hold a battery and CPU with enough capacity in both to make this a practical device for Android. And, i've only got time to skim, but Android seems to cap at FWVGA (480×854) according to this document: http://www.google.com/url?sa=D&q=http://devel… It's also missing the trackball and most of the buttons which are present on all Android phones as best i know.

i'd wager this is going to be a feature phone, something akin to the LG Chocolate referenced above.

Only a fool would say a 720p screen was "impossible" on even a 3.5" form factor. What needs to be stated is that it's not practical.

Even at 4" diagonal, the dot pitch is too fine to be optically visible at normal viewing distances, the screen is more expensive to manufacture (also failure rates higher do the increase of pixels that could go bad), and uses more power. So it's improbable that any tier one mobile phone manufacturer would put such a screen on a phone.

Also 1280×1024 in a 16:9 ratio screen, that's just stupid. Bleh, it's widescreen plasmas all over again (at least they had scalers built in, but as result text was blurry). Circles will be ovals and humans will look like dwarves on videos viewed in landscape.
