The latest version of the HTC HD2 ROMs contain some interesting new apps, including an ereader, but also this new HTC Flashlight app, which makes pretty good use of the super-bright dual LEF flashlights in the monster.

The cab  can be downloaded for your HTC HD2 from XDA-Developers here.

Give your SMS screen a new look

image

If you are like me, you do not appreciate the classic look of the Windows Mobile SMS page, well this might give you a little more appreciation for it. The new design changes the skin, background and that is about it but here is what the developer had to say:

SMSSyncUp

image I’ve just spotted a neat little application that synchronises your SMSs with a GMail inbox.

The idea behind it is to upload/backup your messages to a GMail account so you can use them from a computer. It doesn’t do the other way round so if you need a backup, MyPhone might be a better bet, but it does have a much nicer web interface (Google Mail instead of MyPhone).

Steps to use it.
1. Install it
2. Choose your Gmail Account.
3. Open the application, and fill the Send To: with the gmail id to which you want to backup sms.
4. Go to Menu "Login"(it is not an actual login, you need to configure your Gmail account for it).
5. Login should enable the SMS folders dropdown with all your SMS folders.
6. Select the folder to backup.
7. Go to Menu "Sync SMS Folder". This should start the message conversion to mail format. Progress will be displayed.
8. On completion it will prompt and then ask you if you want to sync
8. Syncing would send Emails with Subject IMAPSMS|<FOLDER NAME> :Sender and the body will contain Message and time, the subject should help you to create proper rules in your gmail account.

Latest version of HTC Sense allows deletion of e-mail, does not go far enough

deletemail Pocketnow has discovered that the latest version of HTC Sense 2.5 build 2011 contains one particularly useful feature – the ability to delete e-mail directly from the Sense interface.

While this is a welcome addition, and another indication that HTC continues to refine their interface, I think adding a small menu item really shows a failure of imagination.

On this occasion the easy and fast deletion of e-mail really calls for a multi-touch gesture, possible in the form of scrunching the email up.  Not only would this have been an amazing visual (and possibly auditory) effect, but would have helped move us even further away from the WIMP UI.

So in short HTC, thank you, but how about trying harder next time?

HTC’s latest Sense build can be downloaded in NRG’s ROM at XDA-Dev here.

Can any of our readers think of more places were gestures could be used instead of menu items? Let us know below.

Improve Zooming and Scrolling smoothness in Opera Mobile

Astrodemoniac on XDA-Developers have posted these hints for improving even further the web browsing user experience on the HTC HD2.

Increase Scrolling FPS
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Info]
PanFps=50

Increase Zooming FPS
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Info]
ZoomFps=50

Values over 50 have no effect.

Lower Default Zoom (Really takes advantage of the HD2 beautiful screen)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Prefs\Adaptative Zoom]
Default Zoom=100

Give it a try and let us know the effect below.

Manilla modding has a long history, but with Manilla 2.5 requiring a lot more horse power than Manilla 2.1 there has been a bit of a split in the modding community, with many hacks only coming to the 2.1 version used by most people.

Thankfully the latest one, by Co0kiemonster, is intended directly for the HTC HD2 and brings some neat features.

The mod brings the standard 16/20 QuickLinks mod, and extended appointments view, clear view, grid view in add program and multiline text labels.

HTC HD now running with Android 2.1 and Sense UI

image

The World of Windows Mobile has been compromised by Android. The HTC HD, which was once the best Windows Mobile devices is slowly becoming the best Android ported device. Earlier this week an Android port was made for the HD and that port came with Sense UI and Android 2.1 software. That means if you own an HD and have the newest dual booting system, you can get this going on your device. The files can be found on XDA and remember this is not perfect yet, they are some missing things like:
