New Windows Mobile handset from Willcom features both PHS and HSUPA
PHS is a short range wireless technology popular in Japan, where it provides low cost phone and data access. Being short range however coverage is spotty, and largely non-existent if you move into rural areas.
WILLCOM has just announced the first device boasting both PHS and WCDMA (HSUPA 7.2 MB/sec), the HYBRID W-ZERO (WS027SH ). The device runs Windows Mobile 6.5 is a slider with an innovative UI called “x-Crawl” which relies on the jog dial to navigate the interface.
The device is otherwise also pretty capable, with a 3.5 inch VGA screen, WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS and 5 megapixel camera.
It is set to reach Japanese store shelves in January 2010.

Wow that thing is sexy! I like! If you replace that slide-down num pad for a slide-down Treo-style keyboard, it would be absolutely perfect form factor. And the jog wheel D-Pad is a cool idea.

Yes, totally agree. Love the form factor. I miss the d-pad on current devices. It really is nice to have for gaming and a good complement to touch screen. Looks like kinda htc diamond size so the 3.5 inch screen size suprised me a little but is welcome.
I dont like these new huge screens. The screen looks lanscapish so im curious if the vga resolution is right, it should be wvga.
It would be cooler if slimmed down with out keypad but it could bee cool too.

This is just the form factor I've been looking for–large WM touchscreen with a numeric keyboard for one-handed texting (without looking at a keyboard). I'd love to see this come to the US, but I guess we all know how likely that is…too bad.
