HTC HD2 now available from Vodafone for free on contract!

htchd2vodafone

Wow, can this be true?  The mythical HTC HD2 has now popped up on Vodafone’s online shop from free on a £35 per month, including 900 anytime minutes and unlimited internet and text messages. Of course the catch is that they are trying to force people into awful 24 month contracts, with the 18 month price much higher (still free, but the price plans are now £45 per month).

The only thing holding me back from jumping right now is Vodafone’s definition of unlimited internet, which usually means only 500 MB, which is hardly acceptable when I get 3 GB on T-Mobile with a soft cap.

See more at the Vodafone shop here.

18 months though? I suppose that gives time for Windows Mobile 7 to be in the wild in time for the next upgrade.

The 18-month equivalent to the 24-month £35 per month contract is only £40 per month – not £45.

the 500MB is a soft cap, and i often go over a gig a month and have had 0 comeback.

3GB on T-Mobile? I'd always seen it in the small print as 1GB. But yes I had heard it was a soft cap where they didn't do anything if you went over it. That's why I've been holding out for T-Mobile to offer the HD2.

Interesting to see other commenters say this 500MB is also a soft cap. Any confirmation of that anywhere on Vodafone's web site or anywhere else? I'd consider this Vodafone offer if so.

The 3 GB is on their second teir plan for £12.50 per month. This tier allows tethering. The 3rd tier is £20 per month and includes 10 GB of data per month.

Thanks… but actually I'm even more in the dark now – I must be more of a newbie at all this than I thought! No idea what the tiers are or indeed what tethering is. Oh well, I'll be sure to ask in the shop for all the details before I sign anything – once they finally get this phone on their systems! :)

Careful with Vodafone…that soft cap turned out for my friend to be very expensive when he relied on the traditional definition of "unlimited"

Apparently, exceeding the cap doesn't incur a charge anymore, just a phonecall to check in on you and 'discuss other options'.

Also, ***stop press!*** I just got off the phone with Vodafone today and was told that they are in talks to increase their fair usage policy limit by Christmas! (in time for their take on the beloved iPhone). Does any one have any more information on this!? Because the FUP is the ONLY thing stopping me from getting it out from Vodafone now and not wait for T-Mobile!

Also, does anyone have any experience with Vodafone/T-Mobile voice and data coverage in the UK? That would be a big factor too in deciding which network provider to sign with.

Just got off the phone to Vodafone. HD2 is in the warehouse shipping today or Monday latest  . Unlimited apparently means unlimited now she explicitly said no fair use policy is in effect now. They will call or write a letter if they feel if data use is excessive – representative said they have to make contact before charging you anything extra.

As for coverage, especially on 3G I find vodafone difficult to beat, and I’ve tried with a number of other telcos incl. T-Mobile.
