HTC HD2 vs iPhone 3GS – HD2 wins 8 to 1
Now of course the above verdict would be quite predictable from WMPoweruser.com, but in this case, in an 13 round battle royale, it was International Business Times of India who crowned HTC’s latest contender king.
Comparing the devices on Size and Weight (tie), Display (HTC HD2), Camera and Video recording (HTC HD2), Connectivity and Wireless (tie), OS (iPhone), Processor (HTC HD2), Browser (HTC HD2), Music and Video (HTC HD2), Keyboard (HTC HD2), Storage and Memory (HTC HD2), Power and Battery (HTC HD2), Pricing (tie) and Miscellaneous (tie), the HD2 wins 8 rounds, the iPhone 1 and they were tied on 4.

Thanks MobilePaddy for the tip.

I would definitely disagree with OS and pricing. Maybe camera too as I've heard good things about the iphone.

Well the HD2 is obviously a lot cheaper than the iPhone and I don't think that there will be a big price change in India…

not alot cheaper if you're buying it unsubsidized.

I beg to differ. iPhone 3GS 32GB is around £1000 unlocked/SIM free, HD2 + 2 16GB microSD cards is less than £600.

iPhone 3GS 16GB is $599 no-contract in the U.S, and 32GB is $699.

thats in the US, the iPhone is like 1000$ in most/all europe countrys and probably in india too. we're comparing prices in india not in the US (where the HD2 is yet to be released..).

Actually the price in India is about the same as the U.S. (unsubsidized)– the 16GB 3GS costs about Rs. 30,000 ($650) (no contract).

alright, then i guess that comparison was ok.
"But what differentiates the HD2 from the iPhone is its HTC Sense UI, which makes multitasking possible (unlike the iPhone)."
This was an odd statement in the otherwise very good article. So my non-SenseUI phone is incapable of multitasking? o.0

There is a lot to chuckle at in the article. IE a plus? I get the Flash issue, but Safari is still the smoking hot browser when it comes to web 2.0 stuff. Interchangeable batteries? Very few people carry spare batteries now that talk/standby times are so long. I haven't carried one in years. Now replaceable batteries could have an argument point, but you're going to replace the phone in 2 years anyway, so the battery shouldn't be an issue.
As for the post above about it being cheaper. Does the HD2 come with a memory card? Thats gonna add $100 to your phone if you want 32GB.

I haven't carried a spare battery, but then again I purchased an extended life battery. It's good to have options.

IE is a plus for Flash, then there's Opera 9.7 for everything else.

exactly my point. however, IE in wm6.5 is not bad at all, it just lacks tabbed browsing

I always carry a spare battery for my Touch HD when I'm travelling; comes in very handy. I don't have to worry about taking a charger or finding somewhere to plug it in, or on a long flight I can watch movies, listen to music and read books the whole time without worrying about it conking out.
The HD2 should have 32GB of internal memory plus the micro SD slot; 2 x 16GB is not the same as built-in 32GB, or even 1×32GB because swapping is a pain, especially if you've installed apps on one of the cards.

The battery wouldn't be such a problem if Apple batteries weren't so prone to failure. I dont know anyone who has an 'i' product that has a battery that lasted much over 12 months. Often they last a lot less than that.

Safari wins,no doubt(esp with mobike cinema plugin)
in my country there are officially unlocked 3gses from Europe, and 16gb for 850$
multitasking myph – iphone can multitask

>> multitasking myph – iphone can multitask
iPhone can multi task? Huh! Do you even know what multitasking is? I seriously doubt it, or it can be that you don't know much about iPhone! To put it simply, multitasking is keeping multiple applications open at the same time. So you can have your chat app open while you are browsing the web in the browser & also have the email app open which is syncing with your email server and then you read something on a website/blog which you copy-paste & send it via an sms to someone in your contacts list. Now thats just 4 apps open; iPhone shuts down your currently open app if you open another app while on Windows Mobile you can keep dozens of apps open. There's a video on YouTube where a guy showed how many apps you can keep open, he opens up more than 12-13 apps on his HD2 & even then it didn't get any lag nor any app crashed. Now that's the power of Snapdragon processor in HD2 and Windows Mobile. iPhone is just a fancy toy, it ain't a smartphone (yet).

A jailbroken iPhone can multitask (see backgrounder or kirikae on youtube). And as Toah said, with mobike cinema plugin can display flash-enabled sites.
And although there's "tons of apps" on WinMo, the App Store contains far more elaborated games and "entertainment" apps. Hopefully the gaming experience MS is trying to establish with the zune will be profitable to WinMo7
But i don't deny that a stock HD2 is better than a stock iPhone, since it can do much more from scratch. And it is eligible to WinMo 7, on the other hand the 4th iPhone will probably make 3GS obsolete.

Ah, didn't know about multitasking being possible on jailbroken iPhones, though now it seems obvious people would want it so some would've made an app for it….. doh!
App Store does have a lot more apps in numbers but from what I've seen, a majority of them are just trash!!
Better gaming also requires a good GPU. Now iPhone has a nice GPU which all WM phones lack till date. In ZuneHD, Microsoft put in Nvidia's Tegra processor which is coupled with a powerful GPU & hence the awesome gaming experience on it. What we have to hope is that OEMs would smarten up & start putting GPUs in their higher end phones like HTC HD2.

And as for apps, there're tons of apps of all kinds (yeah even stupid fart apps like iPhone's) available for Windows Mobile. As for games, yeah Windows Mobile lacks there but then personally I hate playing games on such a small screen, no fun in that!! But if you want a phone for playing games then you better get PSP instead which can play games better & is damn lot cheaper as well.

so the iphone os beats winmo? I would say 10:8 for the iphone … what a nice piece of hardware the hd2 is – how great would that be when there was a complete consistent os with full hardware-api support und complete UI not just a nice wrap around winmo …
[Reply]
the review lost me when it said "camera of HTC is better because its 5MP vs iphone just 3MP".
ONE single look at youtube and the respective sample video clips of the devices would have shown them that
the HD2 camera is complete crap and nowhere near the quality that the iphone delivers.
it says a lot about how well researched the whole article is if they didnt have the time (or didnt eve bother)
to take 1 minute to look at the actual videos but instead just went be the numbers in the specs and the
old "more megapixels is better" paradigm, which could not be any further away from the actual truth.

You're wrong, i have an HTC HD2 and had an Iphone 3g and my dad has an Iphone 3GS. I have compared pictures of both of them and in quality they are about the same but because the size of the pictures from the HTC HD2 is bigger you can resize the picture to the size of the 3mpx and you'll see the quality is better of the HD 2. Also the HD2 has a flash wich is actually usefull i shot pictures inside with total darkness and the you could see everything in the room really good.
Also in battery life i am more happy with my HD2 as with the iphone and multitasking is great on windows mobile all though this is my first windows mobile device ever it's not that bad. Iphone os is the best still but the lack of real multitasking sucks and didn't always like backgrounder that much because it brought me some stability issues. For now i like my HD2 way more as i liked my iphone 3g. I agree to most of the article.

There will certainly be a lot of WM oriented sites posting similar 'comparisons' which skew towards a WM device; and Apples sites posting comparisons stating the opposite — gotta get eyeballs-to-ads somehow
Personally, it's going to take a lot more than a HD2 to pry my 3GS out of my hand

a lot more as in? The hardware already smashes the iPhone to the grounds so I guess you only see WinMo as the big problem here..
[Reply]
"Connectivity and Wireless (tie)"
How could that be? At least with WinMo I can use a wireless folding keyboard (and leave the laptop at the office) when I'm out on the road. Apple deliberately cripples Bluetooth to prevent this so you are forced to buy and carry their expensive laptops and (upcoming) tablet.

Funny, A review coming from a guy who didn’t have both device
[Reply]
Ok, lets keep it simple-iphone multitask. Just jailbreak it and get backgrounder and kirikae from cydia-voila! Now you are only limited with your free ram. Customization-winterboard. Bluetooth-ibluetooth(but hd2 wins in connectivity category,no doubt). Camera-doubtful. Games- I dont want to spend mo money, I want a device that does-it-all. And as for me(using 3gs in common, using hd2 for a couple of days now)-iphone feels a lil snappier. IMO. All those comparisons are so doubtful

There is a simple deal breaker for me on the iPhone. The unit itself and the interface are hideous! Its just damn ugly

help! someone knows where i find hd2 in london?

Yes this very true has we all know Iphone is a Junk and useless lack of feature phone. Who wants a Iphone which battery is welded in and can't not swap betteries again a joke. Has what if your traveling and suddenly your Iphone battery dies out middle of nowhere? where you going to find a power outlet? HTC Wins. Also Iphone can't expand Storage space if it runs out has it is built in the Iphone again a joke. HTC HD2 has built in internal memory and External MicroSD card which you can expand further and in more in future. Iphone can't open Many Apps at once. So I can go on and on Iphone is a total waste of time. Get a Windows phone has it has no restriction like Junk Iphone. Also Winodws phone works well in both personal and business use. Iphone use is for teenagers and for women

1)First of all multi tasking is provided by windows which is supported by HTC’s super hardware(448MB of RAM).According to iphone playing music in background is called multitasking.(HD2 handle even 7-10 apps at a time)
2) what game you play with your Iphone? NFS undercover in 480*320 resolution
try playing in HD2 800*480 pixels, 1ghz processor will be better than 600 mhz processor i guess.
3)User interface in Iphone is just application or program based.(that is if u click on a particular icon , the program opens)
we call it desktop in windows XP ..lol
Unmatchable with touchflo 3d(htc) or spb mobile shell!
4)camera in HD2 is better than Iphone but i wont say it is the best.
5)hd 2 has a removable battery and u can add micro sd(hot swap)
iphone has internal memory only for songs and videos not like hd2’s memory card which can be 32gb or 16 gb
6)I can mak my HD 2 work like a iphone(but i wont for sure) using windows app, but iphone cant work with tf3d.
7)Another crazy thing is the iphone app store. biggest comedy ever, even windows has millions of apps, the big difference is you(iphone users) pay and get , we get it for free in internet or torrents.(even though windows app store is now available)
8)for your info:Flash is supported by IE in HD2.opera doesnt support.
9)i need not say about video playback quality in HD2 it simply rocks.
10)Iphone has one single advantage, its easy to use for a phone ignorant.
Sorry if i have offended any iphone user
Thanks for reading

Yes…yes, welcome to the HD2 cult, your apple deprogramming will begin immediately, shortly followed by your indoctrination and HD2 tattoo under the left arm ceremony.
Owning an HD2 will make your penis bigger , make you more attractive to girl's [or boy's,if you want ] will make you "not seem" like a sad loser with no social skill's. and make you appear far more intelligible when having pointless fanboy debate's that no one in the history of pointless fanboy debates has ever won on the internet about who's phone is the radest and toughest.
Please avoid having children when you grow up…kthks
