The HD2 Avenges Windows Mobile with Opera Mobile
Everyone but I have received their HD2, but my buddy Brandon over at Pocketnow has his and did a quick comparison with the Iphones browser vs. the HD2’s Opera browser. Brandon had his 3GS and his new HD2, so he did a couple of internet experience comparisons.
The HD2 has all the needed bolts and screws to be the best phone of the year and with a great internet experience, it just gets that much better. I will not be getting my HD2 until it comes to American waters with T-mobile 3G—Buyer remorse, also long shipping time—. I can say from this video the first thing I will do is mount it on the wall with its car adapter and watch it as my new TV or computer screen.
Well enjoy this awesome demo from Pocketnow’s own Brandon

Really, I dont think there should be too much crowing about the HD2's performance. It took a 1Ghz processor to get WM on par with the iphone, lets not forget there's nothing stopping apple putting a similar chip in their next version and then WM will be left trailing again. Rather than concentrate on this petty one-upmanship we should be looking for real improvements in WM that do not require a desktop class processor.

What makes the Snapdragon a 'desktop class' processor? It's been over ten years since desktops hit the 1GHz mark… just because of the high clock speed you clasify it as desktop class?
I generally agree though, it's no surprise the HD2 runs well given the processor. Plus, in my opinion at least, WM already had the upper hand in mobile browsing because of the multitude of available browsers – Opera Mini is perfect for when you're on data and viewing small pages, and Skyfire is perfect for WiFi and bigger/heavier sites.
Also agreed on the oneupmanship issue – as if all the HD2 reviews we're being fed weren't enough, now there's dozens upon dozens of HD2 feature XYZ vs. iPhone 3Gs feature XYZ. Who cares, most people who own an iPhone and most people who own a WM device are firmly planted in their respctive camps and would not switch unless something drastically changed.
The repeated comparisons to the iPhone only serve to show that only make us WM users seem like we're insecure about something. It's not just the HD2 though I guess, every single smartphone has to be compared with the iPhone in great detail by every review – I guess that's what happens when a product saturates the market in such a frightening way… and it'll only get worse. The exlucivity deal with the launch network has already ran out in Canada, and of the 3 major phone networks all three of them sell the iPhone now! The same thing will happen in the US and everywhere else eventually… and apparently, the next iPhone will work both on CDMA and GSM networks. Can you guys imagine? If you thought the iPhone's ubiquity was bad now then just think what will happen in a year or so.

You are right, Because the Iphone is the Top of the line to people who like it.. which is the majority in the world, so for any phone to be goood it has to be close to the Iphone in style, speed and whatever else…. Also the Brand name serves a lot in the sales… just think about Apple. But another thing you wont see for a while is an Iphone with 1Ghz. 2 reasons…. 1, it doesn't need it, the iphone runs a simple but good OS, so it does not need that much power. 2, with 600mhz, it was melting already and they had warnings of it being too hot, so I dont think it would handle it.
Lets all just hope that WM7.0 Brings a revolutionary change like MacOsX did for the Iphone. Im praying for that.

It isn't a desktop class processor. Those MSM7200 processors have destroyed Windows Mobile's reputation. Did you ever use it before those processors were put in use? Ever use it with a 4-ish year old 624MHz Intel PXA processor? It was fast on that thing!

Exactly. It took at least 5 years and a 1GHz processor to about equal the performance and capabilities we were ALREADY getting with the Dell Axim v51 on a 400MHz XScale cpu + PowerVR gpu.
It's a crying shame that it's "so" impressive now, again.
Thanks a lot, HTC/Qualcomm! You've sure milked your monies worth out of us with your Dark Age.

Both devices will find their customers. Personally I am getting an iphone. It stands for my needs, and when jailbroken…oh, nevermind it is 600mhz-it will outperform those 1ghzes in hd2. Just choose that one taht suits u more. And you dont have to zoom in to be able to touch some strings))

Well,
We don't say the Iphone is bad, but their is a difference between the two…. WM, no known hackers or virus to worry about. Iphone 2 known Hackers and already 200,000 jailbroken iphones attacked. Just saying. I think the Iphone is still a good phone and thats why people alway compare it to other phones, because to be good this day. a phone most come close to the Iphone.

Isn't it funny that the situation is reversed in the PC world? Windows machines have all the hackers and viruses and Macs get little to none.

It's all about market share. although in the case of the iphone publicity and an obvious and easy hack probably contributed more.
I'm surprised there are so few winmo viruses. may be because there just aren't enough smart phones out there or maybe it's too secure (i doubt it).

You can get everything an iPhone does without hacking your WM device. Frankly, if the iPhone does enough for you out of the box, then buy it.
But if it doesn't do enough for you without jailbreaking it, then you should DEFINITELY get another device – be it WM or Android.
Because when you jailbreak your iPhone, all of the iPhone's advantages are lost – ease of use, stability etc. are all gone then and you STILL can't do what any WM or Android device can!

Have you ever even _seen_ a jailbroken iPhone? How the heck can you claim that a jailbroken iPhone "loses" all the iPhone's advantages? Let alone the fact that jailbreaking an iPhone is actually an easier process than even loading a ROM for a WM phone.
Tell me one thing a WM phone can do that a jailbroken iPhone can't. I can tell you quite a few things my TP2 can't do that my iPhone can.

Zune HD IE-based web browser with the latest 4.3 firmware already avenged Windows Mobile…well at least Windows CE.

A comparison of the HD2 v the acer neotouch and TG01 would be of far more interest to me….with the same software of course.
I guess this is a case of, does the HD2 out iphone the iphone.
Looked to me like the iphone screen brightness was turned right down for this comparison ?

I agree. All these HD2 vs iphone is rather pointless. So what if it outshines the 3GS, you would think that after so many failed attempts by all the major mfgrs to 1-up the iphone in terms of user experience, it takes literally 3yrs for the HD2 emerge and pull one out of a hat…with an overwhelming and overpowering list of specs. Let's compare apple to apple and oranges to oranges here. So if the 4th gen iphone were to be released next year, it'll take the WinMo world another 2-3yr to catch up, really not something to be proud of having a little fish taking a big bite out of the big ones in this pond. I'm not going to be in denial by turning the other cheek and dismissing Apple/iPhone for completely changing the mobile world, but it makes you wonder what have the lsmartphone eaders (HTC, samsung, SE, Nokia, etc) been doing all this time.
Let's have a comparison that matters and pit the HD2 against the i8910 HD, i8000, neotouch and TG01.

I'm enjoying the browsing on the HD2, I like the comparison, I'm wishing they will compare it to more devices
