XDA-Developers splits down the middle

xda-splitXDA-Developers, the biggest Windows Mobile Community, is splitting down the middle.

XDA-Developers has been there from the beginning, and has always been there to help Windows Mobile phone owners and nurture the development of new applications and ROM’s. They recently added Android to the menu of phone OS’s that they support, and since then XDA “Hacks & Development” has been getting more and more full of Android things.

XDA-Dev recently added more sub-sections that separate Windows Mobile and Android forums, cleaning up the Android pollution that has been plaguing the forum.

This should make the forum a lot more user-friendly, and save a lot of scrolling time.

Now if XDA-Dev has just gone one more further and spun of the Android forums entirely, I would not have been more happy.

Be that as it may however, see the result of the split so far here.

Well, Sad to See a fellow WM person leave the team, but Hay, its whatever makes you happy…. If that android, good.
BTW you really cant say it outshines any phone, because It doesnt out shine the TP2, HD2 ND The N900

HD2 is not available in US(yet?). you bloggers might be playing with review units, but regular users will have to wait a long time for it. so let's not compare unicorns to dragons, but rather 'buyable' phones.

Maemo is yet to prove itself, so as far as it stands right now, android > N900.
Without carrier subsidies you'll have a hard time gaining momentum with a ~$650 phone.
It might be as awesome as a golden turd, but if they'll sell 3 units you'll hardly get any developers working on it.

Well, the TP2 is good priced… and If you are a serious about a phone, I think you can work extra hours to get the awesome phone, or maybe brandon will give one out, I dont know.
The N900, has kind of proved its self in that video that demos it controlling a billboard. Which is pretty cool.
and android is not a phone so you cant say "android>N900" I will get a review aris next week and compare it to the TP2 just for you okay :) and actually to the Droid 1… which is much better, just a little more pricey and exclusive.

Dont Forget, I dont have a review HD2, but you can buy one from a UK dealer… if you have the money, so yes it is a buyable phone like you put it. because everyone can buy it.

I thought that XDA was always ONLY Windows Mobile and from HTC. Great phones were not discussed due to this!

nope, HTC-only devices doesn't mean its restricted to WinMo. If another OS comes along to the HTC branch then XDA-Devs will cover that up

Your post is not completely accurate: "has always been there to help Windows Mobile phone owners" –

The focus is on HTC made phones, not any others, even if it's Windows Mobile or Android.

  • I am happy with my iphone so far, however I just got it 2 weeks ago… but now after reading about this, I am interested and now going to have to wait 2 years until my contract is up for renewal.. and maybe at that time this phone will be available in Canada!
