Sony Ericsson confirms no official Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the Xperia X1

xperiax1nowm6.5 Smashing earlier rumours that suggested an official Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the Xperia X1 will be coming, Sony Ericsson has confirmed the contrary to CNet Asia.

Some owners may be rightfully upset by this, as the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 has been one of the more expensive handsets of recent times, and while ROM’s are available on XDA-Developers they are not blessed with official updated drivers, meaning they would have issues not present in an official release.

The device joins other premium devices such as the HTC Touch HD in not getting updates to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS.

  • Hmmm… X1 is too slow for 6.5 … Xda Cooked 6.5 Roms are slow… 6.1 is much faster in my opinion, for me no official upgrade has no meaning…

That's b/c the ROMs aren't cooked with official drivers. So even though the X1 has the same processor and RAM as the Touch Pro2/Diamond 2/ and X2 it is slow….

If tthe X1 can't handle 6.5, then the Touch Pro2, Diamond2, and X2 shouldn't be able to either… what are you talking about?

  • No! the X1 isn't inferior to diamond2 and touchpro2 and there's no hardware shortcoming making it slow or incapable for winmo 6.5.

I have 6.5 on my X1 with an unofficial ROM and the phone is actually faster than with the stock rom 6.1 from SE. If you don't have an X1 then please do not write comments just to make your HTC TP2 look important :P

and i stand by my statement that wn6.5 runs slow on sony x1! i using Acer neotouch with 1G cpu, u can feel the slowness in X1! just like you think DSL is fast, until u tried cable internet, then you will know dsl is slow. and just like your think sitting on your honda/toyota is comfortable until u seat on a mercedes S class. then u will know what is comfortable. haha. know what i saying?. u think your x1 on 6.5 is fast, just like those that think dsl is fast. haha.

  • this is why MSFT needs to put out the minium chasis real fast and have the ODMs conform to them so would be much easier to send out updates to the OS themselves and not wait for the manufacturers to do so. (maybe I'm thinking over the top here)

  • I have read in this blog that the device joins other premium devices such as the HTC Touch HD in not getting updates to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS. Can anyone give me brief details about this? Please post this.
