HTC HD2 camera problem – software or hardware? Update: HTC’s official statement
The HTC HD2 has a camera problem. This is not arguable at this moment. The question is whether we should all be returning our devices until it is fixed, or wait for a software fix.
Initial responses from HTC claimed it was a hardware issue, but now we are getting HTC support claiming a hotfix is on the way for the issue.
Dear HTC Customers,
We have identified a software issue affecting HTC HD2 cameras.
We take this matter very seriously and already have a patch in a form of a hotfix in development.
This will be released as soon as possible.
Updates for this product will be released via our support pages, and in the case of Network Devices you will normally still be able to apply hotfixes to the device.
The HD2 support page can be found here:

While the 2 responses are not mutually exclusive (some hardware issues can be fixed or ameliorated by software) the situation remains very confusing for current owners and the legions of future buyers for this top of the range Windows Mobile smartphone.

Edit: We have just received an official response from HTC:
HTC has received reports that under some lighting conditions, images taken with the HD2 camera are pinkish in colour or have a pink area. Although this appears to be limited to a small number of phones, we are currently investigating these reports and will work on developing a solution for those affected. Thank you for your patience.
Not very illuminating, but hopefully it is the case that only a small minority of phones are affected.
Do you have an unaffected HTC HD2? Let us know in the comments below.

I think the pinkness is an exaggeration of a shortcoming of the camera. It wouldn't be the first time ive seen such an effect on a camera phone, including 'premium' ones like some SE units, but this is a pretty extreme case. Im reasonably confident they can reduce it to a much much lower and acceptable level in software.
Interestingly my HD didnt have any pinkness when i first got bit but its now running a Leo based ROM and it now has some pinkness, although not as much as seen here.

What's the ROM of HD (Blackstone) that you are using?

I didnt test my camera that much yet, only noticed a small pink flavor on different whitebalance-settings. I'm gonna make some pictures on a white wall when I get home.
I hope this gets fixed through a software hotfix. I can't be fucked to return it and then wait months till i have it back.

No problem my camera. However, I'm colour blind so it's possible that all my pictures are totally pink

no problems here

it is good that they've found the problem and are working on a solution

I got:
"Good Morning Valued HTC Customer, In regards to the Pink discolouration that is seen when taking photographs with the camera, we are aware of the issue but it’s not a common fault with this device. It has been determined that this is not a hardware fault but a software issue and there should be a hotfix to be released soon to resolve it. Please monitor our website for the hotfix release. If you have any further questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact us further. Kind Regards, HTC Europe"

How is it not a common fault while being a software issue?

It's really annoying that HTC keeps saying "it's not common". Then why haven't we seen even one phone without the problem ?

could you imagine what would happen if this wasn't a software issue? HTC would lost an insane amount of money. I'm hoping that this scares them into higher quality control for the future. It's rare to have a new device out with such an obvious issue on such a high proportion of devices. Someone really screwed up.

yeah! seems like they rushed the device to market and kinda used the early buyers as beta testers…

"Digital Picture Enhancement" fix for HTC HD2 is available at the support page. I have just download and installed into my phone, I tested it on a white wall, the pink spot at center is still there. It's would be better if HTC can change our current camera to a non tinted len. This will solve the problem

ROM 1.48.411.1 (71294) RUS (I suppose this is the latest).
