Default Windows Mobile keyboard finally updated
We have seen a lot of changed to the Windows Mobile UI since Windows Mobile 6.5.1, but the small stylus-centric keyboard has always remained.
It seems no longer, with the latest build of Windows Mobile, WM 6.5.3, revealing a new keyboard skin directly from Microsoft. So far it is not known if the keyboard will come with additional intelligence, such as keypress prediction which improves accurate typing, even the new, larger, finger-friendly keys is a massive improvement.

It's a huge improvement but that's not really saying much.
True, a good keyboard these days needs to be big enough for fingers, but it needs to be more. Personally I'm partial to FingerKeyboard… doesn't make you make many mistakes, makes use of the default predictive text input and it has shortcuts to everything from smilies to cut/copy/paste that you activate by doing a long press.
Really, I'm hoping this is just the start of what they plan on doing. WM7 needs to innovate to succeed, not just bring itself in line with the competition. Can't they give the FingerKeyboard guys some money and just license it? Heck, that's how they got DOS.

I think at one point they were using a modified custom SIP (probably shouldn't say which company, but one of the larger software providers for WM) for testing in WM7.

I would like to see it in action before I can have a proper opinion on this because at a glance it doesn't look like much to me. first off I don't even like the colors: black on gray…..seriously? how is the predictive text input?

That keyboard is simply a set of images, and it's from the Arabic build. It really doesn't make a lot of difference to anyone running most custom ROMs, and definitely not stock ROMs.

Much needed, but I'd rather see the Zune HD keyboard.

Id rather see WM7 than any more development of the 6.5 branch
