Windows Mobile comes to the iPhone – now you can “do what you want”
A Norwegian hacker seemed to have accomplished the impossible – finally making the iPhone a useful device. Using the long winters of his native country he managed to hack Windows Mobile, rather unwillingly, onto the iPhone, and, bootcamp like, is giving iPhone users a choice of booting into a more free OS.
He presented his research at the MyPhone2008 summit, from where this video is sourced.
When the developer, Erik Kristiansen, was asked to explain what you can do on a Windows Mobile iPhone, his answer, “You can do what you want.” is certainly explanation enough for oppressed iphone owners for doing it in the first place.
Apparently Erik is planning to release the software widely early next year. I am sure thousands of iPhone users who want to tether can hardly wait.

Hey buddys, take a look at the homepage and the other videos: A weapon detector like in James Bond, a calories calculator just from one picture of food
hmm, not the best site for “serious” applications and developments, or ? It´s just a fake !!!

Seems odd that Google for MyPhone2008 only returns hits for this story. Other than that, if it’s a fake, it’s a well-done fake.

Man what did the iPhone ever do to you? I blame Jobs. He shouldn’t have hyped it so much, which inevitabley made it an unfullfilling device. Reinvent the phone my ass.

Your attitude of unadulterated scorn toward the iPhone made me pretty uninterested in what may have actually been accomplished. The iPhone is an amazing, beautiful, and extremely useful device. It has reinvented the phone for many people, whether you personally like it or not. If we’re not willing to admit that, we’re ignoring our own weaknesses and have no hope of improving. That’s very sad. You’re not going to get the attention of anybody who doesn’t already vigorously agree with you. Admit the strengths of your opponents first and you may start winning some people over.

Amy, I dont know if you noticed, but this is a Windows Mobile fan site. Its not a site that covers mobility with a Windows Mobile focus, its not a site that apologizes for ever supporting Windows Mobile.
I shall give the iPhone a considered opinion when I stop seeing reviews of amazing Windows Mobile devices reading “shame it runs Windows Mobile”.
There are plenty wishy washy uncommitted sites supposedly about Windows Mobile, but that end up running more stories about the iPhone than the Touch Diamond. This is not one of them.

What’s the point of this? Windows Mobile hardware is better than the fruit phone, and already runs Windows mobile. Why not just buy a Windows Mobile phone to begin with? I guess this would be useful if someone gave you a fruit phone, or you won one in a contest or something…

Hell, making an iPhone bootable with an WM is laughable … You must split the partition boot and that is impossible (you only can make a bootable partition with Pwnage to be able to jailbreak to whatever you need … 850 Mb is the most used). Nevertheless, the WM is one the most impressive OS for Handheld devices! I own 4 devices, with all OS’s: Symbian, WM 6.1 Pro and OSX. What Jobs did with iPhone was revolutionary … Coming into a market like Handhelds with such a UI device, was at least a contest … Frankly, I use WM 6.1 with a touch screen device (htc x7500) and is unbelievable good responsive; but the iPhone is far more better …
Cheers.
