Major fail – HTC Touch HD only to be available on Orange UK
Tracyandmatt.com is reporting on a rumour that the HTC Touch HD will be available exclusively only on the Orange network in UK. As yet they do not have any confirmation, but they consider their informant to be a reliable source.
Orange has always been an active supporter of Windows Mobile, but has long been the network I love to hate. They are the only major network without an unlimited data plan, and have actually increased their data rates recently.
Suffice to say that while I would love to use a Touch HD, I would never use Orange, and if the device is really exclusive to Orange HTC has just lost a sale.

I see where you’re coming from completely, but since all we’ve been doing is speculating lately… let’s try this on for size.
Maybe Orange will use the Touch HD to introduce their new unlimited data plan.
Granted, you will have to give them your first-born child to afford it, but hey, I bet they do it.

Isn’t there a way to jailbreak windows mobile phones? The jailbreak for iPhone came out in a blink, so there should be one for Windows Mobile which has much larger userbase than iPhone!

Jailbreaking on the iPhone means freeing the device so any app can be installed. Windows Mobile obviously does not have this problem (usually). What you are likely taking about is unlocking, and yes, it is usually only a matter of months beforean unlock becomes available for carrier-locked devices, but then you are still stuck with the contract however.

I have just spoken to HTC UK and they informed me that this was simply not true. They said that the HD would be available with Orange in mid November and it will be distributed to other networks for distribution as of the end of November. She told me that I would be looking at early December before I would be able to get one from other providers.
Surely Matt & Tracey and WMPoweruser could have done exactly what I just did and find out the correct information??

That just shows how much I hate Orange. They use great hardware to lure you into horrible contracts. They even charged me a hardware unlock fee at the end of my contract! Worst network ever!
