First Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots!

Smartphonefrance.info has scored a major scoop by having the first purported pictures of Windows Mobile 6.5, and they look pretty good indeed.
It seems Microsoft has taken the call for eye candy on board, and everything looks large, bold and anti-aliased. In fact the UI bears a distinct resemblance to the Zune interface, suggesting to me Windows Mobile 6.5 will be coming with the Zune software after all.
Far from being a point update it seems WM 6.5 may be much more important than it appears, and continue to support Windows Mobile’s progress into the market.

I call fake. A native YouTube application? Hexagonal launcher? Doubtful. Also the ordering of signal/battery icons are out of order between the two.

….I like the glass panels better. Also, are these the only two pictures available?

@Fake
Steve Ballmer has confirmed version 6.5, so I think this is real.

The hexagon pattern reminds me of Zumobi, who apparently has a partnership with MS.

So far these are the only pics, but in a few hours I will try and scour the internet for more.

The battery & signal icons do raise doubts, but I guess these are all what we have so far, & personally I don’t think it matters much to someone like me who is an end user. More info would be out soon & then a bigger picture about how it will look will be available.

It’s fake. Icons are lifted from OSX.

@Ike
like ActiveSync and Microsoft Office?

[...] WMPowerusers.com made a great find on French tech website smartphonefrance.com where they found screenshots of what has said to be Windows Mobile 6.5 and what looks like to be a Zune influenced interface. While it looks pretty and definitely an improvement over the original interface. It seems weird that they would make such a change for 6.5 when Windows Mobile 7 is not going to be that much far off in release time from 6.5. Whether its fake or not it would be nice to have an interface option such as this available in any new version of Windows Mobile. [...]
I seriously doubt these are real. Apart from the Mac OSX Icon, the color windows flag in the upper left just looks like it was added really badly in photoshop. On top of that, it looks nothing like the mockups we’ve seen for Windows Mobile 7. I doubt that Microsoft would make 6.5 so different from both 6.1 and 7.

@Jahdai
Yeah I’ve opened my eyes. I thought that it might have somesort of glow effect but now… I doubt these are real.. Still, I’m excited for the future of Windows Mobile. Maybe we’ll see something legit, like the live Mesh commercial showing it off.

i call fake also. there are so many inconsistencies between the two. And the use of Apple icons, yea right.

i’m quite shocked people actually think these are real!!

forget the mac icons.. has any1 taken a good look at the windows mobile sign in colour on the right hand sign?? looks like a cheap photoshop effort of trying to use the vista windows logo to me.. seems like a good concept though – i cant wait to see this new win mo and hope it competes a bit with the iphone domination

I actually think there is a good chance picture 1 is real, as its just another implementation of sliding panels, but on the WM Professional platform.

Definitely fake: on the left it’s “email” and on the right it’s “Email”…

FAKE!!! The Today Icon is actually OSX Home Icon and the Battery and Signal Bar are out of order between the 2 screenshots, i am an iPhone/iPod Touch user and i will stick with it.

” i am an iPhone/iPod Touch user and i will stick with it.”
I fail to see the relevance.

Maybe the screens were taken at a different time?

well i dunno how many read gizmodo.. but theres a good chance that these ideas would be implemented.. and maybe its just an idea being brought into the open by some ppl wishing to promote some cool idea which they had – honestly i dont mind these fake (if they are) shots; they can only inspire really – no harm done =D
