PointUI Home version 2 teased

The PointUI team has recently been very busy released UI’s from Bell Canada and Telstra in Australia, but that does not mean they have forgotten about the rest of the world.

They have recently released a teaser video demo-ing their new version of PointuI Home version 2, running on the Xperia X1, which features their trade-mark fuild interface and many features.

See the video below.

Ignoring the garish background, do you think you would install the UI on your phone? Let us know in the comments.

wow it is actually quite nice :) with different background it looks really good. I hope that we will see it soon and maybe with time more 3D graphics and effects using openGL will come.

I went back and forth using the current version of Point UI Home on my old Treo 700wx. The interface really is amazingly snazzy, at least what’s there. Sadly it just didn’t have much in the way of customization options, and is a bit buggy. All things considered, and judging by this video as well as the Bell UI, they’ve come a long way. I look forward to playing around with the new version at some point.

PointUI 1 was free, I am sure PointUi 2 will be also, but with charged value added services like themes.

I am running the Bell UI on my Touch Diamond. I would run this on my Touch Diamond too. My hope is that they support the Touch HD as well. IMHO, the Point UI interface is better than Touch Flo 3D.

I like it. I’d like to see how it looks in landscape mode and how it (if at all) can interact with the accellerameter.

The more, actually, the less i see of the traditional winmo interface/colors, the better. It destroys suspension of disbelief when one is brought face to face with the poutlook interface, for example.

By, the way, is it that hard to make poutlook more pleasing to the eye? Maybe I’m missing any programs out there that make it look more polished than the craptacular vision of pooh it looks like now.

    I’m looking forward to PUI2

You can always use 3rd party PIM like Pocket Informant.

  • I’m glad they have stopped covering up the title bar like V1 (a big pet peeve of mine), but the rest of it… Well… I have a Touch Pro and so far I don’t see anything in the video that is better than TF3D. In fact, it doesn’t look quite as finger friendly as TF3D, although it does look a bit more customizable. PUI 1 looked really amazing, but after all the glitter, it just doesn’t do a whole heck of a lot (to be fair, neither does TF3D). I think Sony Ericson got it right with the Panels. You can install something like this but you can easily switch to alternate UIs and apps. With my Touch Pro, I’m a bit more committed to my Today screen, so unless it’s killer and just does a whole lot more than what is shown in the video, I don’t see any reason to switch from TF3D — same beast, different stripes. Now, if I just had a regular stock Today screen, I would probably pick this thing up in a heartbeat!

Call me crazy, but what’s wrong with Pocket Outlook’s UI? Sure, it won’t win a beauty contest, but all the info you need is right there and right there quickly. Personally, as cool looking as the flying envelope in TF3D is, it’s basically a terrible UI. You can only view three lines of an email at a time and there is no way to get a list view! Sometimes eye candy = lost productivity. If anything, I’d add more columns and buttons and stuff to make Pocket Outlook look more like Big Outlook, but I would be hesitant to add much eye candy, other than maybe some sort of transitional animation (which many would disable). There’s a reason unpretty plugins like the whole SPB suite of Today software sells like hotcakes, even though it’s very, very rough on the eyes. It’s functional as hell!

it looks quite nice, but it also doesn’t look more comfortable to use than the common app.

  • Looks nice… Did you recognize, the animations are totally different from the Bell version ?!? Looks like PointUI Home 2 is kinda framework like, so maybe the paid version will also allow to choose animation-styles.

Guys from pointUI said that Bell UI is based on pointUI home 1.5, wich is totally different from home2. The real home2 basics are in telstra’s interface.

By the way I’m very happy to know home 2 is coming in 2009, beacuse there were times, when I thought that it will never come out. But that’s over now ;)
