HTC Touch HD service manual leaked – claims US 3G support
The HTC Touch HD service manual has just become available for download, and while I have not yet read the full 96 pages, page 5 already revealed quite a bomb.
We had a huge flutter a few months ago when HTC claimed the Touch HD was incapable of US 3G. There have however been reports of some people having 3G coverage in USA. It now turns out the support for the 850 and 1900 HSDPA bands are officially confirmed by the manual!
While this news wont bring a carrier-subsidized HD any closer to USA, it does mean enthusiast who wish to import one can look less sceptically at importers who claim US 3G support.
Download the manual at this website for more information.

True, there are corner cases where the lack of keyboard is a big problem (or even D-pad) but I am using an HD at the moment, and I run into problems surprisingly infrequently.
I, like you however, am much more productive with a large slide-out keyboard. Bring on the HTC Touch HD Pro

They should have put a little dpad on there or something. No buttons(clicky ones) whatsoever on what is basically Pocket Pc 2003 is not cool.

This doesn’t change anything if you ask me. Big deal it’s on a piece of paper. HTC doesn’t have to do anything they don’t want to do. They’ve reminded us of that many times. They aren’t the most compassionate company.

hey guys –
Just a quick note that HTC has confirmed that this is a misprint on the manual — still no plans for a Touch HD with US 3G bands:

Fair point — they could be pulling a ‘Jobs’ “Video on handhelds is stupid….. look a video iPod!” …but I guess my feeling is still that they’re not going to do it because there’s not enough carrier support for it here and since Best Buy and Circuit City and Fry’s and etc are doing so poorly lately that selling it unlocked via those channels won’t work as well as it has in the past.

I know some sites are reporting that the bands mean the phone will come to US – I specifically did not say that, as I agree that AT&T wont carry it. I was specifically talking about the import market.
HTC wont have to look at Jobs, they can just pull a HTC Touch, which they claimed was triband and non-US, when it was really Quadband all the time. They have a pretty bad reputation in this regard.
