HTC Touch HD beats out T-Mobile G1, iPhone 3G, Blackberry Storm
We all knew this already, but its nice to see our convictions confirmed by mainstream media.
UK’s Channel 5 The Gadget Show has compared the Blackberry Storm, iPhone 3G, HTC G1 and HTC Touch HD.
The HTC G1 was quickly eliminated due to its immature software, the Blackberry due its poor typing, and eventually the Touch HD beat out the iPhone 3G when it came to battery life.
Of course the Gadget Show concluded the iPhone 3G still ruled as it was so fun and the HD ran Windows Mobile, but then they would, wouldn’t they. However when it comes to usefulness, the Touch HD and Windows Mobile can not be beat.
See the 7 minute video below for all the action.

I think they summed it up pretty well
winmo phones got the spec, but the user-friendliness of the iphone really kills all the competitions
Of course, I still prefer my Fuze about 1000x more than the iphone, any day
(I’d make that 5000x if I had a 3G Touch HD :p)

No surprise. I remember you mentioning that Android and the iphone can’t match Windows mobile in software maturity.

iphone is full unlimited its only the business customers who have 250 meg limits,
look at the new O2 tarrifs,
I have a Touch HD on orange and have gone for a patnther with unlimited browsing (250meg) plus a £7.50 unlimited browsing addon giving me 500meg,
Its still crap considering I’m having to pay twice for what is advertised as unlimited.

How did the iphone not get knocked out the first
round with its shitty camera and lack of video?
i would have given it 3 stars.
god how i would LOVE a touch hd
unfortunately it doesn’t appear as though we
are getting it stateside. how much is it going on the
O2 network? it must be a shame only having 250mb
when i purchased the data plan for my HTC Hermes
and was told i’d have a soft limit of 5gbs i blew up
on at&t for misleading me with their so called “unlimited”
plan.

The lesser camera on the iphone is a sticking point for some, but that said only in very dark light scenarios do I find the photos bad to the point of unusable. Other than that I find them generally pretty ok. I mean, it’s a phone and there’s no phone that takes photos like a digital camera (yet) even the Sony Cybershot ones lack quality in comparison. As for video, there are applications available, you just have to have a jailbroken iPhone, at the moment that is.
For me the HTC touch HD looks like a better phone than the iPhone for a few reasons. Now that Windows Mobile syncs with Plaxo (which in turn pushes to/from Apple iCal/Address book) though I don’t know how well, that’s an alternative to Apple’s MobileMe. Shame that Orange don’t do an unlimited data plan like O2. Even a measly 30mb is £7 p/m, just good enough for emails but forget browsing as once you’re over your quota, they really throw the book at you!

iPhone – so good it now has a special name ife (akin to wife.) Much more storage. Faster I/O. Rip a DVD and watch it on your ife on the plane. Listen to music in the car with an iTrip. Get games, free or paid for, for the kids to play, for you to play. Don’t need a Bible in church, just take your ife with all the versions in one! Take sermon notes – no paper. Increase your productivity by synching with Outlook. E-mail and Internet are a pleasure. The MS Office editor is rumoured to be out in Jun 09 – great. I don’t need a spirit level on the job – my ife does it. So many apps to do so many things. I could wax lyrical but you need to try it to really know what a pleasure it is. I can’t remember how I was able to live without it.

The problem is what does one want out of one’s phone. Is it just a phone? If you want to replace your laptop, camera, iPod, cellphone, chess board, Bible, portable movie player… then get an iPhone. You can afford it if you sell some of the above! If you need a cool e-mail tool, get a Blackberry, if you love Microsoft and prefer the option of a stylus, if you only need 512MB of storage and want viruses (ok maybe not viruses) get an HTC HD, if you need a keyboard get the G1. If none this appeals and you love your brick, then beat the credit crunch and don’t upgrade!

DUDE. R u guys kidding me!!??!! i dont think anybody gives the blackberry storm enough credit. i am a storm owner and personally.. i love the phone. its pretty much a labtop. the internet blackberry browser is quick even with bad service, AIM is easy to use, i have microsoft excel, word and powerpoint….. need i continue?? the camera is great and the video/sound are crystal clear. although i am a bit bummed about the battery life which kinda blows, and evrynow and then my music will go off in the middle of class, but other than those minor things, im in love with the thing… i wont be missing my computer so much as long as i have my storm.. i think its deff a close shoe-in for the top with the HTC and Iphone, and deserves more credit

I’ve been undecided on which new phone to buy, but this show actually helped me out. I have the HTC P6500, but am extremely disappointed because it crashes at least once a day… the worst is that you’re not aware until you need ot make a call… and then you reboot and get all the missed call messages from the operator and sms’.

I have a HTC HD and love it, before getting it i was very undecided between the iphone and the HTC, many friends with the iphone didn’t help make up my mind until they all started to realize it really wasn’t the phone they thought it was until getting past that new gimmick stage. As far as blackberry, well my company uses them and I never heard anyone say they were happy with it. Next think I disagree when talking about providers, fortunately for me maybe, but I can use any provider for my phone so I don’t think that should have even been an issue in this video, I thought the idea was how good the phone was.
