More Windows Mobile 6.5 Screenshots

We can’t get enough of Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots and thankfully the magical thing that Internet is, keeps them coming. In this case, xaoc747 from xda-developers posted a small pack of screens that shows some interresting new details about the upcoming OS.

Well, as you can see nothing really new in this first pictures. The panel interface we have seen before and the honeycomb-ish UI leaked by EXEDA a few days ago. We do have to ask though, what is the deal with this weird bird and Windows Mobile 6.5,

The second set of pictures do reveal something though. Screenshots of the new Internet Explorer reveal that Microsoft has updated their browser quite a bit. Zoom icons and a bottom icon row show the path IE 8 is heading.

And last, a portrait of the Windows Mobile maskot. Well not really, this is the lock screen for Windows Mobile 6.5, something that really needs updating on current versions. A big blue icon below the top bar, shows that gesture unlock could be a Windows Mobile feature at last.

With all these new cool interfaces with 6.5. Whyyyyyyy do they keep the ugly top and bottom bars? It’s like having Vista with a Windows 98 start panel.

No! It’s like having Vista with with no taskbar or start button. There is your answer.

This is not a new cool interface. This is horrid! How embarrasing? I mean, we are in 2009. I don’t think I can deal with the honeycomb interface. And please lose that stupid bird! lol

No one knows for sure, but xda-developers are getting their keyboards and mice ready for porting the OS on several devices…

Awwwww, you’ve got to be kidding me MS!!!!! You still kept the same sorry itsy bitsy tiny SIP button???? That thing is the bane of my existance. It makes it so ridiculously difficult to change SIPS without using a stylus.

  • Daniel:

Yeah, this is just more ‘lipstick on the pig’. Fonts are not anti-aliased, and the status bar and SIP are still not thumbable. And I’d be willing to bet the rest of the UI is loaded with non-thumbable crap.

The honey comb looks awesome. What’s with the bird though? Did someone bata test this at a Zoo?

It may not be the best interface around but it certainly is better than the current one and addresses (or at least seems to be trying to) some of the things frustrating WM users – eg bigger Close button. Seeing as how PIE has new menu icons I hope other parts of the OS have been similarly upgraded but to be honest, its too early to judge till a device running the final rom is released or previewed.

Ugh. To add to the list; the cross looks stupid. And combined with that bird I’ll think I’m out on safari whenever I use my phone. (Also, wonder why only one eyebrow of the bird is overlapping the top curtain on the first picture?)

I like the honeycomb idea, but it looked better on the blueish screens posted earlier.

Dude, I think the honey combs are just cursors, and they can therefore be changed by changing the color scheme. I’m sure the original honey comb concept looked the way it did because of the background. Seeing how there is a bird as the background in the honey comb launcher, I guess it can be changed and is thus customizable. The sliding panels look different depending on the background. On a blue background, they’ll look a bit more blue. On a background where no one color is dominant (Like the bird pic), they’ll look like glass. As for the bird, that can be changed as well. What are you complaining about?

Just said. ;) I know I can change the wallpaper and all. But the “worn” out cross still looks stupid.

Yeah that looks terrible. The whole top bar looks terrible. They should make it more like Vista, and change the “X” to look like the “X” of standard windows.

My money’s on these being fake, or a bastardised home cooked ROM, or at best an early build, they just look way too amateur – MS may not have the best of UIs in WinMo but they at least aim for some consistency in the look and feel. There’s no way they’d release such a poor looking ‘upgrade’ in the face of the competition from Apple and Palm. I think you’ll find what MS announce at MWC will look much more refined.

I strongly hope those leaked pics are not real and that’s not the real UI, the honeycomb style is butt ugly!!

  • nuke1:

They could have the highest res screens in the world, but the fonts not being anti-aliased will make their OS eternally ugly. And they could’ve changed the top bar icons so easily, we see it all the time on XDA. I agree with L here.

Microsoft should just outsource their GUI development to HTC – ship then the source to WinMo and let them skin the whole thing. TouchFlo is not half bad until you run off the end are are forced to use the MicroCrap GUI on the apps themselves.

Pathetic. Would have been a GREAT release about 4 or 5 years ago. What are they doing in Redmond, spending all day watching their options tank? Someone is clearly asleep at the wheel.

Well, they’re working on version 7 (Total revamp).. No really. They’re hard at work..

These things take a while.. I don’t think 6.5 was ever actually a part of the plan:

It could have been a last minute decision meant to hold us over until version 7 arrives.
