WM7 on track, “Project Pink” ad agency chosen
Rarely have so much been speculated about one product for so long with so little being known in the end. We have head many months now about “Project Pink”, a product of Microsoft’s secretive Premium Mobile Experience division, run by Roz Ho. The service is meant to be an extra layer over Windows Mobile 7 (or it actually Windows Mobile 7? No one is really sure).
Mary-Jo Foley from the All about Microsoft blog has just stirred the pot a bit more by bringing news that Microsoft has settled on an ad agency, McCann Erickson, to spear-head the campaign. Worryingly the agency is the one who has always been dealing with Windows Mobile, not the ones who have led Microsoft’s recent PR successes such as Laptop Hunters, credited with causing a drop in OSX market share.
According to MJF’s sources WM 7 is still on track for Release To Manufacturers in Fall 2009, which should make a Spring 2010 release quite likely.

They might be pretty cautious this time around. We’ve had enough leaks. Could be in for a surprise.

i just find it pretty hard to believe we’re getting so close to a supposed release, and there’s literally been nothing. thats never the case, with anything these days lol. it worries me more than anything to be honest.

Well we still have a few months to go. There was actually a pic leaked a long time ago, but it’s gone now. It was basically a build of wm7 showing the about screen with some info snipped

look closely, i was actually the one who tipped this place off haha. but we’ve had 6.5 rom’s for how long? seems to me we’d at the very least be seeing pictures of 7

“Sprint” 2010 release, eh? Freudian slip? Or were you referring to a statement by Sprint?
I’m thinking “Spring” is more likely.

‘Freudian slip’ were also the words that came to mind.

Let’s be honest. If WinMo 7 doesn’t have legacy support it’s an epic fail IMHO. I’d rather start from scratch with the iPhone…

um…you will cry if you`ve been using winmo and go to iphone!
i`ve been playig with it now for about a week everyday…i cant use it more than 20mins without needed to go back to my omnia!
and im the one complaining about capacitive screens all the time!!
the iphone is VERY pretty but VERY lacking.
regarding winmo 7…to be honest…after my experience this week with the iphone, im OKAY using 6.5.
winmo 7 will have to be really revolutionary to make me feel a strong need to switch.
i can do everything now!
what i do feel a need for though is…THE OMNIA 2!!!

@aleis
Same here!
(except that I’ve got a Touch HD, not an Omnia, and I’ve had the iPhone for several months before I decided to go back to the Touch HD)
Waiting for the Omnia II….. but maybe there will be even better phones when the Omnia II is releasen (HTC SuperStar….?).

IMO we need to think more about windows ce 7 than windows mobile 7. I think that the new HTC firestone thats supposed to have tegra will have an advanced touch flo ui and not just some skin like what they have currently. I think Microsoft are doing this to combat android, with its ability to replace the whole ui. windows mobile 7 is just the ui on top of the next ce 7.

Hmmm, Engadget’s article mentions (rumor) that MS’s Danger department might be working on a sidekick to have wm7?? But, it also mentioned that the sidekick-type device might have a custom ui that only the MS device will have and be different from other manufactures’ devices. I think the “Pink” project will only be available for the MS device???
