HTC Touch Pro 2 in the house – post your questions

I have finally received a HTC Touch Pro 2 to review, and because the device has now been out for a while, I felt there was little point in a detailed review which may still miss the issues readers want to know about.

I have therefore decided to do the review in a Q&A format – you post your questions in the comments section, and I will do my best to answer them in the final review.

My first impressions on using the device is already of a high class bit of kit, with the chrome accents serving very nicely to enhance that perception. Screen sensitivity is also very good, with nothing more than the weight of your finger needed to activate the device.  So far, with no applications, it is also very speedy.

Drop your questions below, and look forward to a series of posts to answer them.

Is there any screen play? I have heard that some peoples screens move about 5mm, which my TyTN II did not do.

In light of the impending release of the Omnia Pro, I am seriously considering skipping the Touch Pro 2 and trying the Omnia Pro. I still want a phone with a physical keyboard since it will be used primarily for company communication and I can’t stand phones like the Treo Pro with their form factor. So.. with this in mind, which one is preferred by the staff at WMPoweruser and why?

    1) Can I have it please???
    2) Does it feel to bulky in your pocket? I have an iPhone at the moment and would really like a TP2, but an concerned of how big it is?

Touch Pro (FUZE) has some serious GPS lag while driving (not initial gps fix), also the volume from the speaker is not that high, I some times miss gps anouncements while driving and listening to radio. In Touch Pro 2, how is the gps positional lag while driving? Can we use the dual speaker for playing mp3, or for GPS directions other than conference calls and how is the audio sound?

Is it worth upgrading from Fuze?

    Thanks

Any news on the Sprint date? I think t-mobile is the 22nd. IS Sprint gonna beat that?

Is there a WM app that will allow voice to text for email and txt msg?

Is there a particular Bluetooth ear piece that will work best with TP2?

How easy is it to switch-hook when receiving another call while talking?

I have a Touch HD which I love but if the size isn’t that much of a difference, I would love to get the TP2 when AT&T comes out with it. Touch HD vs TP2? Also, is the touchscreen better on the TP2 than the HD? I realize that as similar as these devices are, they are in fact targeted to a different crowd. HD is more of a multimedia device and the TP2 is more of a Pro User/Business device. They both blur the lines but I just can’t seem to decide which one to get. I will have to wait and see what AT&T does to the device to see if I even want their version. It is nice to have options.

Echo kk0813. Have an AT&T Fuze running Fuzeberry II; it’s often slow in many functions. If you were laying out the $$$ yourself, would you make the upgrade?

I may or may not get TP2, I can only see tilt screen (I don’t use keyboard much), WVGA screen (one reason to get tp2), dual speaker may not use for conference but can be used for gps voice while driving (other reasoon to get tp2), other than this I don’t see much change, processor, gps, RAM, ROM, Camera, (flash missing), usb audio, tv out, fm radio every thing looks same as FUZE. (pl. correct me if I am wrong)

I will update to TP2 when there is promotion from ATT, (free TP2 with contract), till then I guess I will continue with FUZE. But if $$$ is no matter then I would get TP2 for sure.

This also depends on how the performance is when ATT releases TP2 version compared to FUZE.

Video performance – is it laggy like the rest of the HTC devices? Can it play high res videos (720×400 for example) directly off the mem stick without flickers? I have an i780 and the benchmarks on tcpmp give me 250% normal rate….how does the tp2 compare? Can you compare with an i780?

    Cheers!

The TP2 and TD2 have the same Qualcomm 72xx processor (@ 524 MHz) as the rest of the HTC devices, so while hopefully they’ve made some driver optimizations, it’s not going to be hugely different.

can you please take pictures under varying conditions w/ the camera and then publish them. I would like to see how well it takes pictures especially in low light, and high light conditions, and moving objects.

Hi, I have a question: Do the dual microphones come into effect with anything other than calls such as video or audio recording? Also, what exactly is the frame rate on the video recording? I’ve seen some sites saying 15fps, others 24fps, one said 20.xx fps
I know it’s not 30fps. But I would like to know exactly which of these many different ones it is.

  • Tarwin:

Oh, one more question. How well does the in-call noise cancellation work? I am not talking about the speakerphone noise cancellation (as that has been covered in all the reviews). I am referring to the noise canceling options for a normal call (it’s in the manual). I’d also ask about games, but that is too vague a question.

    Thankx =)

Put a few hundred phone contacts on there and measure how bad the ring delay is. Is it still 3 rings like the touch pro Or have they finally fixed it?

I have upgraded from a Touch Pro (Fuze) to a Touch Pro 2 with my own hard-earned cash. I kept the TP thinking I’ll try out the TP2 for a day or 2 and if I see no benefit, I’ll get rid of it on eBay. Within a few hours of using it, I fell in love with it. The extra screen real estate makes usablility a million times better. The menus, email, video, Facebook app, web, Youtube app,etc all benefit SOOO much from the bigger wider (longer in portrait) screen. I am selling my my TP and booted it up yesterday to do a hard reset and the screen felt so cramped and tiny! The keyboard on the TP2 is also a massive leap ahead (the row of number keys on top make it a must-have over and above the Omnia Pro). There is no GPS lag that I can see. The speaker is plenty load enough, though not tried it in the car. 3G, Wifi etc all work well. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever.
