LG launched Windows Mobile application store

lgappstore2 lgappstore LG has launched an application store for their Windows Mobile phones, with a catalogue of 1400 tested apps, which LG hopes to expand to 2000 by the end of the year.  Initially aimed at the Asia Pacific region, the service will first be offered in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Australia and will reach Europe and the South America by the end of this year.

To access the LG Application Store, users can either visit www.lgapplication.com and download applications to a computer or directly access the shop from LG-GM730 by flicking horizontally on the “Quick Key Box” at the bottom of the home screen and tapping the App icon.

Developers interested in adding to LG’s catalogue can visit developer.lgmobile.com where they can download SDK’s and have access to virtual devices such recently made available by Samsung.

LG is also set to launch a movie, music and game service soon where owners can buy content directly for their devices.

so, does this mean we can expect app store from each hardware manufacturer? this may cause confusion for consumers and frustration for developers.

then i wish amazon.com would get into the phone app game. they have the name recognition, customer trust, and the business processes in place.

I actually think separate app stores from different manufacturers have sense on one condition. That is if they’ll offer apps that will nicely integrate with manufacturers overlay for WM. That would mean more work for devs but also more joy to users. And multiple distribution channels (closely integrated with device’s software) wouldn’t hurt devs either I think. That is of course until WM7 comes and no more UI overlays will be neccessary because it will be nice and pretty and usable at last and one marketplace will suffice;)
