JavaFX for Windows Mobile now available
We have written about javaFX before, but then only the demo (in the video below) was available. 6 weeks later and you can download the nascent cross platform environment for yourself now.
The runtime package is designed for use with select Windows Mobile handsets and also includes the Sun Java Wireless Client. The package contains a Twitter client, a simple calculator, a photo viewer and a little application like the Xperia’s fish where your finger makes a ripple and the fish follows it.
JavaFX is intended to bring rich media content to phones and is intended to support many platforms, but of course first came to Windows Mobile.
Read more and download the package here, and see the video demo below.

Windows Mobile really has to work on their phone and OS… the dude had to touch the menu THREE TIMES before it registered his selection! Then again, I’m way back on an “ancient” HTC Touch.

Even though it’s slow I wouldn’t look at that as a reflection on it’s potential. When Java first came to the desktop the performance was pretty poor, but the ability to target the Java VM instead of multiple OSes and other platofroms made it of value. Presently the JavaVM is better is comptuers are faster. I can see the same occuring on mobile platforms.
