Samsung Omnia 2 has digital compass
It seems most Windows Mobile devices are always behind in the sensor race that’s currently going on in the smartphone world, so it comes as a pleasant surprise to find the Samsung Omnia 2 comes equipped with a digital compass, despite this not being advertised as a feature by the company.
The app can be accessed through the LCDTest program found in the Windows folder, as seen in the video above.
Despite there not being any software at present able to take advantage of this on Windows Mobile, Samsung has been quite aggressive at documenting their sensor API’s and pursuing developers to take advantage of them, so I do not think it will be long before we have our own Augmented Reality apps on Windows Mobile taking advantage of this.

Hmm, so the direction information isn't currently passed in any NMEA strings? Or the GPS Intermediate Driver?
Both of these are standards that applications like Google Maps should be able to use and might use already.

You would need special software and algorithms to multiplex direction data into GPS data. The GPS Intermediate driver is a good place to start, but that is Microsoft's domain.

the quicker way to get there is through so called lcd test code *#0*# – available on most of the handset but with different test cases
