Windows Mobile through the years (Pocket PC 2000 – Windows Mobile 6.5)
Below is an interesting video showing how Windows Mobile changed through the years (and often how it did not). What is very clear from the screen shots is that the user interface was the feature that was modified the least from version to version, at least until Windows Mobile 6.5.
Where the video does fall down a bit however is not mentioning the architectural changes in Windows Mobile 6.5, such as new ways to manage virtual memory that should make Windows Mobile 6.5 not only prettier and easier to use, but also more capable.

Did WM 2002 have multitasking/windows switching button the lower right? That seems like a cool feature that should not have gone away.

That was a "New" menu where you could quickly create a new Word document, note, task, contact, etc.
I just can't believe the 1 year 9 month gap between WM5 and WM6 and the mostly useless new features in that time. No interface changes.

to be honest…whoever made this video did a pretty crappy job at comparing 6, 6.1, and 6.5. from things that i've seen on some wiki sites about windows mobile in general, there's been a lot of changes in terms of the way that memory is used and managed with these 3 making the OS more stable and run faster. so to say that 6.5 is prettier and comes w/ myphone and marketplace would be what i expect a time magazine reporter to say.

Well the 6.5 screenshot it totally wrong, that is a screenshot of the, still under development, WM 6.5.1 that will be released in November with the first capacitive windows mobile device, TBA from HTC. The 6.5 screenshot should have been taken from the 6.5 build 21234 which is in the 6.5 developer toolkit released by Microsoft. Don't believe me then go get the windows mobile 6.5 developer toolkit(google it).

A tear came down from my eye seeing this video!

Not only was the 6.5 screenshot wrong since no *release* of the OS looks like that, it also was a poor comparison for showing the Start Menu instead of the CHome Today Screen
