Over 30 Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets coming before years end – Lets name them!
Digitimes reports that a Microsoft executive has claimed over 30 handsets with Windows Mobile 6.5 from 15 vendors will be coming this year still. That’s quite a lot of handsets in only 2 months, meaning its going to get pretty busy here at WMPU.
Benjamin Tan, senior director, GCR Mobile Team Unit at Microsoft China revealed the numbers as he met a group of reporters in China recently.
Of course this number was thrown around more than 6 months ago at Mobile World Congress, but with the end of the year so close its a bit of a challenge to see where all these handsets will come from.
Which leaves us with a pretty nice game – Name the Handset!
I will start us of (upgrades count also):
- HTC Leo
- HTC Warhawk/ HTC Pure
- HTC Fortress/ HTC Touch Pro 2
- HTC Touch2
- HTC Touch Diamond 2
- HTC Imagio
- HTC Quilin
- HTC Ozone
- HTC Snap
- Samsung Omnia 2
- Samsung Omnia Pro B7610
- Samsung Omnia Pro B7320
- Samsung Omnia Pro B7330

- Acer C1
- Acer L1
- LG GM750
- LG GW620

- HP Obsidian
- Motorola A3300
- Gigabyte Gsmart M1220
- Casio Cassiopeia DT-5300 M30S
- Alcatel OT-S988W
- Sunno Q880
Anyone want to fill out the list? We seem to be short a bit on vendors. And maybe we should not be counting those upgrades after all. Let is know in the comments.
Edit: Thanks for the commenters. Here’s a bit more honest list with the duplicates removed. Remember we are only counting handsets being released this year. We are still short of OEM’s however. . Any more suggestions? Anything from Palm
?

What about the SonyEricsson Xperia X2?

Umm, does counting the Tilt 2 and three different carriers TP2's really count as a separate phones? Talk about padding the numbers.

The HTC Leo is pretty great however. I saw somewhere a restrospective where they matched up HTC's actual releases with the leaks and its a pretty close match.

yeah! the releases were actually the same as the leaks until touchpro2. Then, it seems things got a little different for htc. That early firestone design has completely vanished. Quilin came out of nowhere, and Leo has a 4.3 inch screen (not 3.6)
Shall wait and see what happens next!

Diamond2 should be matched up with the Pure and Warhawk. HTC Touch Pro 2 should be matched up with the Tilt2.
Not sure if anyone mentioned the Samsung ACE II (if it goes by a different name/number).

…and how many of those handsets work on U.S. 3G GSM?… 5.
Nice. Why should I care about WM 6.5 living in the U.S.? Because I can choose from a total of 3 handsets. Give me a f’ing break. This is BS. M$ needs to step in and require HTC, Sammy and whoever to include U.S. 3G bands on their unlocked handsets if they want to use WM 6.5. It’s a freakin U.S. company for crying out loud.

Why would anyone want to make US 3G? The rest of the world is perfectly happy with a normal range of 3G bands, and the US has to be different with CDMA *and* different 3G. It's your countries own stupid fault really!
