Samsung Omnia 2 to come to Verizon retailers Early November, HTC Touch Pro 2 to be “short lived”?

500x_verizonlineup_01

Gizmodo and their reliable sources…. What can one say?

Their tipsters apparently just dropped them Verizon’s Q4 line-up, likely intended for their retail stores, and it carries some interesting Windows Mobile titbits.

In there is the Samsung Saga 2 and the Samsung Omnia 2, both set for release in Early November.  Also there is the HTC Imagio, which will be available for business customers right now, and on the 20th for everyone else.

The most interesting and bizarre entry however is listed for the much demanded HTC Touch Pro 2.  It appears retailers “my (sic) eventually get this phone” which is currently only available (or not) online, but that the handset will be out of the market the end of Q1 2010.

Now this may be wonderful news if its due to be replaced by a snazzy Windows Mobile 7 device, but 5-6 months is an extremely short life-time for such a popular device.

Do you find the above believable? Do our readers have any theories?  Let us know in the comments.

My guess is that they are replacing the TP2 its probably because of the Leo being released. But that still doesn't make a whole bunch of sense becasuse the Imagio would be the obvious precursor to the Leo.

Also, I'm completely torn on this whole Omnia 2 problem. Basically I have heard that its only going to be WM 6.1 and they got rid of the sweet looking cube and stupidly replaced it with a shield button. But I am still really tempted to go for it simply due to the AMOLED screen. I think I'm going to to need to see all of these phones up close to really make a decision one way or the other.

On the bright side. Verizon has a ton of great WM phones here or on the horizon. TP2, Imagio, Omnia II and hopefully hopefully HOPEFULLY the Leo next year sometime. Knowing Verizon though, the Leo will be cleared in the US and Verizon will take so long to release it, it will be out of date.

I'm with you about the O2, however, as I was doing more reading, it was suggested that sticking with 6.1 for awhile might be a good idea, plus apparently 6.5 takes up a little more space and uses a little more resources. Video reveiwers all bagged on the floating cube thingy, that it ate up resources and really had no special functions other than being kinda cool looking. And the button thing, its still used a different way but is just a different shape. Certainly that can't keep anyone away. I think its worth whatever wait for the biggest baddest screen out there right now.

Verizon had the HTC Touch Pro 2 available online for a couple weeks and since then it has been listed as out of stock. Now comes word it will be dropped soon. For a device that has received great reviews and seems to be popular, this is very puzzling. I hope it means they will be offering the HTC HD2 instead, but that still leaves them without a WinMo touch screen with a qwerty keyboard.

The Saga, Omnia, and Imagio all have their place but are not a replacement for the TP2. The BlackBerry devices are just current upgrades from existing RIM products. I don't think anything else on the list is even a smartphone. I'm not impressed with VZW right now, so I hope the pull a rabbit out of a hat and surprise their customer base.

The largest US carrier with the worst lineup of smartphones and the slowest to get a new device from maker to market.

Agreed, HTC CEO already hinted that the HD2 is coming stateside in Q1 '10, so if the TP2 is discontinued at that point, it's obvious what's occurring. But better is that it means that a CDMA (Sprint/Vzn) version is coming – yea!!
