Browser speed comparison – HTC HD2 vs Acer neoTouch vs iPhone 3GS

Solopalmari has published the above video comparing the browser speed on the HTC HD2, Acer neoTouch and the iPhone 3GS. The HTC HD2, which comes with Opera Mobile 9.7, which does server compression, seems to be faster that the iPhone 3GS’s Safari and considerably faster than IE Mobile on the Acer neoTouch.

The second part of the video shows screen rotation speed, and in this case it seems it is the Snapdragon devices which are faster, with the HD2 responding faster, with the Acer neoTouch second and the iPhone 3GS dead last.

Safari doesn't rock in that video… Surprisingly IE Mobile performs faster… you should watch the video again…

At roughly the 11 second mark, the guy sets off iPhone, Leo then F1. iPhone had at least a 2 second advantage over the Acer, but only completed the loading a split second before.

Agreed. IE Mobile and Safari were definitely neck and neck. Very interesting.

surely you should load a webpage that isn't saved in the cache,
doing a refresh isn't really much of a browser speed test.

Actually i think that would be more of a test for the connection speed and not the browser.

IExplorer always is slower than Opera, then the comparation between htc and acer should be done using opera browser in both.

it seems opera turbo was turned on so opera will be the winner. the interesting part to me is that IE6 mobile had the same time as safari mobile which everyone has been saying is fast. so from this test it would seem that IE mobile is as fast as safari mobile

ok, so I watched the video a couple times and came saw this:

    | Device | | Start Time | | End Time | | Actual Load Time |
    Iphone 3Gs with mobile safari………11sec…………………30sec………………….19sec
    Touch HD2 with opera 9.7……………12sec…………………22sec………………….10sec
    Acer NeoTouch F1 with IE6………….13sec…………………32sec………………….19sec

Note: I looked at the time IE actually finished loading the page which was at 32 seconds in. IE and mobile safari came off in a tie at 19 seconds….I would give IE the win because the guy didnt' press the go button exactly on the 13 second mark, he pressed it a little bit after. but that's debatable.

also Admin, it's not Opera Mini 9.7, it's Opera Mobile 9.7….the mini is a total different browser that is based on java midlet code.

You can judge the acer f1 with the crappy iem, you should have install opera mobile 9.7 and see that it will load the pages in the same speed as the htc leo.

if you really looked at the video will would see that IE and Mobile safari on the iphone loaded in the same about of time which was 19 seconds. so I wonder if you would call the mobile safari crappy too? we dont' know if turbo mode was turned on in opera mobile, and I think the guy should of turned it off if it was on.

again, in this test, if you're going to call IE mobile crappy, then I guess you should call safari mobile crappy too, seeing that they got the same time, right?

Turbo doesn't help that much in general browsing, and given that it was a refresh, it really wouldn't help!

Opera is the best, just as expected. ^^

The downside of IE is that it only shows the page off after it has fully loaded, but unlike the iPhone it does Flash! :)

please note the HD2 processes 2.5x pixels more than Iphone at the same time.
