LG – Windows Mobile 7 coming to US in September

lgwm7september

It seems LG just can not keep the lid on the Windows Mobile 7 news, despite Microsoft’s best efforts to keep a lid on the news.

In the latest revelation they told a French tech blogger Presse-Citron who was participating in a design session at LG Design Labs that they expect to release Windows Mobile 7 in September.

Of course this news was promptly tweeted, but has since been deleted.  Fortunately Google’s cache is a bit slower in doing it, and the tweet can at the moment still be seen if you search for Presse Citron’s tweets.

In the background of Microsoft’s rumour control efforts which is convincing many that Windows Mobile 7 will not be announced at Mobile World Congress, this is certainly welcome news.

Are you still expecting WM7 at MWC?  Let us know below.

CES: New LG Phones

Apart from the LG eXpo, a few other devices have been showcased at CES.

The GW550 has VPN support, a 2.4” QVGA (landscape) display, full QWERTY keyboard, A-GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3.2MP camera, running WM6.5 Standard.

image

The LG GM750 is similar to the original Samsung Omnia in design, and features a similar WQVGA touch screen, along with  A-GPS, Wi-Fi and a 5MP camera. This is backed up by WM6.5 Professional and LGs S-Class UI.

Along with those WM devices, there are a few “dumb” phones and the LG GW990, on which there are very few details. It features a 4.8” screen and an Atom processor. Not much else is known, though LG says there’ll be more information later.

Apart from the device with no information, LGs WM6.5 devices seem fairly standard, and slightly low on the spec front.

Windows Mobile powered LG WIMAX phone coming to Sprint January 6th?

Eric Zeman from Information Week has tied together some interesting thread which led him to the inescapable conclusion that LG is announcing a Windows Mobile-powered WIMAX smartphone to run on Sprint and ClearWire’s network.

His evidence? Sprint has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday, January 6 — the day before the Consumer Electronics Show kicks off.LG and Microsoft factor large in the presentation, and Brooke Shields is involved, too. Remarks will  be made by Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Sprint and LG have sent out a separate invitation for a big party taking place the following evening, hosted by Brooke Shields. Sprint has been pitching this event hard to tech journalists as the "must-attend" event of the entire show, calling it the "Hottest Spot at CES!"

All this build up to a pretty big announcement, and to Eric that means a new WIMAX handset. To date the only WIMAX handset on Clearwire is the Samsung Mondi, and of course that is more a MID than a phone.

See if you can follow Mr Zeman’s logic here.
