Samsung announced Samsung B7330 WM 6.5 Standard smartphone
The Blackberry Curve vs Samsung B7330
Part of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 wave, Samsung has just announced the October German release of the Samsung B7730 Windows Mobile Standard Smartphone.
The phone unusually features a 320×320 screen but otherwise seems to have a classic Blackberry form factor and is clearly focussed on business. A relatively slim 10.8 mm thick, it still packs a massive 1500 mAh battery, which should serve for a full day of those very important push e-mails.

Below is a video of Windows Mobile 6.5 running on the Motorola Q9H, and the major impression is that it looks almost exactly the same as Windows Mobile 6.1, most clearly illustrated by the list-based settings page.
With non-touch screen based smartphones of the Blackberry variety dominating the US smartphone market at present Microsoft should ask themselves whether directing some eye candy in the direction of Standard may not have paid of dividends also.

HTC Cedar smartphone shows up on Bluetooth.org

Knowing HTC’s 2009 line-up does take some of the mystery of our usual search for clues. Usually having a new device name pop on the bluetooth.org bluetooth certification site is associated with frantic speculation, but since January we know exactly what the HTC Cedar is (that is a Windows Mobile Standard smartphone).

As mentioned in the last post however, what we don’t know is the release dates of these devices, but seeing how this is the first of the leaked devices to show up on bluetooth.org, it suggests it will also be one of the first to be released, and may well be announced at Mobile World Congress on 2 weeks.

Samsung i200 – cheap smartphone, great value.
Most Windows Mobile smartphones tend to be on the expensive side. This however does not always have to be the case. Samsung has released the i200 Windows Mobile Standard smartphone some months ago, aimed directly at the low-end of the market with the tag line “My Very First Smartphone“. The device has always been very affordable, and now dropped to an even lower price.
For no more than £190 (215 Euro) you can get yourself a HSDPA device with a 2.3 inch QVGA screen, a 2MP camera and Windows Mobile Standard. Unfortunately, the specifications does not include Wi-Fi support, and the 3G is only on the european 2100 Mhz band, but that is the only thing issues holding this device back from a solid recommendation.
Still, the price is great for what i200 has to offer and surely beats many dumb phones or Symbian powered devices in the same price range.
Below is the video unboxing that Tracyandmatt.co.uk posted just today.

HTC S740 – Windows Mobile Standard not forgotten after all
HTC has finally gotten around to updating the HTC Vox, a smartphone that had an innovative form factor but was dated even before release, due to only having GSM EDGE WAN connectivity and a 2 megapixel camera.
The HTC S740 ups the stakes a bit, bringing quadband GSM and dual-band 3G (no US bands unfortunately) and also essentials like GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera, unfortunately fixed, not autofocus. At 116.3 x 43.4 x 16.3 the smartphone is 2mm thinner than the HTC Vox, and a full 7mm narrower than its predecessor and bears the HTC Touch Diamond styling. Unfortunately the small 2.4 inch screen is still only QVGA, and the interface, while pretty, appears to be the standard Windows Mobile 6.1 Sliding Panels version.
