A look at 3rd party Qi Standard Wireless charging accessories
Qi is a wireless charging standard which has been in the market at least a few years, which means there are in fact a variety of 3rd party charging accessories already available which should work seamlessly with the Nokia Lumia 920.
Below is a quick look at some of the accessories already on the market.
Above is the Energizer IC2B-US Qi Dual-Zone Flat Panel Induction Charger, which features 2 charging zones which can deliver 5 watts each. In general this will charge your phone at the same rate as if it was plugged in.
On release it was being sold for around $90, but it seems to be heading out of the market, and can be found for as cheap as $29 on eBay.
See more after the break.
If your needs are smaller the Energizer IC1B Qi Single-Zone Flat Panel Induction Charger will charge only one device with around 5 watts of power.
The device is still in the market, and is available from around $36.50. The pad (and the dual charger above) also feature an extra USB port to deal with accessories which are not as future forward.
Another single pad solution is the LG WCP-700 Portable Power Mat Home and Office Charging Pad which offers the same fast-charging capability and features a loud beep when you place your phone correctly in the right charging position.
The pad is available from $39.99 at Amazon and elsewhere.
I suspect most of us will be looking at a bedside charging pad. The Oregon Scientific – QW201 – Wireless Charging Station with Alarm will set you back a healthy $87.95 but features an alarm clock showing date and time and indoor and outdoor temperatures.
The package includes one outdoor temperature sensor, but can display up to 5, and also delivers 5 watts of power.
If you don’t mind looking a bit further abroad, the Sanwa Supply Wireless Charging Stand WLC-STN11BK will keep your phone at a rakish angle and set you back around $45 (without shipping) from Amazon.co.jp.
We do of course need to be careful to make sure the new Nokia’s are held in the correct position to charge. The stand is available in both Black and White.
Also from Amazon Japan is the Panasonic QETM101 ECM750 charging pad, which will move the charging zone to where you placed your phone, and will charge 2 devices sequentially. That device will set you back around $50 (without shipping) and is available in Black and White.
The LG WCD-800 is an incredibly stylish cradle designed to work both in portrait and landscape mode with an extra-large charging area, and was recently announced at Mobile World Congress 2012. Unfortunately no pricing has been released yet.
