A thorough demo of WP7

With the WP7 devices shipping to developers and the reviews of the technical preview out, some people may feel overloaded with demo videos the OS. For those of us who cannot get enough, Pocketnow.com has posted a set of four videos, featuring Microsoft’s Greg Sullivan, Senior Product Manager for Windows Phone, that provides the best overall look of the OS far.  We also get more details about what the OEMs will or will not be able to do and so much more. If you can watch these and not help but be at least a little bit excited about WP7 there's something wrong with you.

    • Melika

Yes, I totally agree. Seriously, if anyone with a WP7 dev unit want to make some money by selling their unit to me, let me know. I'm buying

MS will break your legs :D

Unfortunately, the videos do not excite me at all. Everything he demo-ed are the same old news that I have been watching all along. And to tell the truth, WP7 is just a piece of old technology just like iPhone. Why? Here're why:

      1. Back button. What's the big deal? Android done it and been there. And we all know that Back button is NOT enough. How can we jump between apps using such linear task switching? Well, both iPhone and Android provide app jumping now. WP7 is so backwards.
      2. Smart text correction? C'mon! All phones already have T9 dictionary nowadays. Again, WP7 is backwards.
      3. Lame color themes. Devices nowadays are talking about high colors. Not just some RBG themes?!
      4. Tiles? Act like widgets? Please…. Look at how small the tiles are. How much information can it provide? We will still need to tap on the tiles to get more information (launching the app?). Unlike Android widgets, which really display lots more information.
      5. Long scrolling of shortcuts and tiles. Why can't the home screen be split into multiple screens instead? Notice how newly added shortcut pin to the very bottom of the long list of tiles? Everytime I pin an URL, etc user will have to scroll all the way down and rearrange it.

These are only tip of the ice berg. I think WP7 will really need to do lots of improvements before it can be stand against head-to-head with Android / iOS 4.

noone cares about android, tard. those tiles dont launch apps, they open hubs. once again, youre uninformed. look at android, its a hacked-together, jerky, ugly UI for virgins like you.

I have the LG Developer phone and have been using it as my primary phone for 3 days. I can absolutely say I like using it more than the iPhone. (I've been using the iPhone for about a 8 months)

    • Melika

Lucky you! So, aside from all the cool things they keep on showing us, how is it to use as an actual phone?

      • khanh

It's very fast, responsive and intuitive. I showed it to a few people at my work who uses the iPhone and Android. They were pretty shocked at how good it is. That's a very positive sign.

I don't really need Cut and Paste much, so it didn't really bother me at all and the semi multi tasking implementation is good enough for me. I mostly only use music app in the background.

        • khanh

One thing they need to address is, when you want to move the courser to a different position to modify a word, you dont get the magnifying glass so it's hard to position the courser. However, they have suggessted words which is very very useful for editing.

Hm, thats weird. Both Zune HD and KIN have tap-and-hold cursor magnification, I wouldve thought WP7 would as well. Maybe by RTM.

Don't not again, Oh MY, the old frog same man who always talking too much and less hands on video for 12mins like he did in Windows Phone 7 Looking Better Than Ever In Video [http://wmpoweruser.com/windows-phone-7-looking-better-than-ever-in-video/].. nothing changes Yawn..

@khanh I dont care if wp7 is quickly, responsive and others.. it is very QUICKLY BORING!!! * YAWN* Iphone is still superior to Wp7! Android and Iphone's browser are still superior to Wp7, too

You said, not need a Cut & paste. Cut and Paste???? what heck are you talk about??

Anyway Copy & paste is MUST! why the hell MSFT put Office/ Note in wp7? Office/Note require C&P for business users! RIM is winner always will win for businesss users. Wp7 won't be dominate Smartphone makert as Iphone, Android, amd RIM.

Wp7 refused to allow 3 party Instant messaging on it, Instant messaging is very important for deaf community. MSFT IS STRONGLY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST DISABLE/ DEAF COMMUNITY!! i always spread the nasty words to deaf community about Wp7. I encourage them don't invest in wp7 when holiday 2010 launch..

          • GAM3R
