Aloqa – you must get this app

We just noticed this application in the Marketplace showcase.  Aloqa, previously on the iPhone and Android, is a geo-location app that lets you know what’s happening around you.

What’s particularly great about the software is the breadth of services the software integrates with, including movie listings, live music and even Wikipedia.

The software is free in Marketplace and is definitely worth the download and is available here.

  • I downloaded this a week or so ago. crashes on start-up every single time.

  • sucks for me:

Cool concept but I uninstalled. WiFi is turned on automatically by the app on start but doesn't turn off on close. I'd use it for movies but it doesn't list the 3 closest-biggest-most popular theaters in my city. Instead it lists far away theaters nobody knows about. For fast food it doesnt even list nearby McDonald's? I live in a major U.S. city… Maybe the developers aren't using databases that are geared for the U.S.? Anyone else having a similar experience? Definitely not an app we "must get" here. Also crashed during my short trial.

  • Doesn't crash for me. I tried this about a week ago too but didn't both reinstalling after my last flash as it didn't seem all that great.

I didn't see any additional channels to add and the data about restaurants and movies in my area (Beckenham) was extremely sparse.

Based on this post I've reinstalled it for another go. Still no additional channels but I'll give it a go next time I'm in London and want to find a decent restaurant.

I went to the marketplace, but when I'm logged in the app doesn't show up. I've got a Dash3g smartphone, so I'm guesing that the app is marked as only working with touch devices.

  • Owz:

Works fine on my HD2 but when I click on an item for some information, I cant seem to be able to scroll up or down the page.

Has there been a solution for installing Marketplace apps to the storage card yet? I've got jack for space left on my main memory so that venue has largely become dead to me.

  • Sanjeev Agrawal:

    Folks,
Anyone having wifi or Aloqa crashing related issues – an update has been submitted to the Windows Marketplace and will be available as soon as it is approved by Msft. Shouldnt take much longer than a few more days.

    Thanks,
    Sanjeev (CEO, Aloqa)

It always crashes on my HD2….
All the time crashes, crashes, crashes. How can this be even proposed on the MarketPlace?

  • Peter:

ok, sorry. I did not see the message above from Sanjeev (CEO, Aloqa)….

By the way, better to download the program directly from the official Aloqa website rather than from the stupid MarketPlace. So you can download the cab on your storage card.
