An Interview with WP7 Developer Karim

1)Have you developed Apps for any other platforms before? If Yes What are they?

Yes, on the old windows mobile version (5.0, 6.1) also on Android, Symbian OS (S60 3rd, UIQ) and JME.

2)Why did you choose WP7 as a platform of your choice?

WP7 have a very good point: If you are a Silverlight or XNA developer, you can easily port your applications/games or create new ones really quickly. It’s really simple and powerful platform.

3)Which one do you think as the single most feature you liked in WP7?

Certainly the home screen, which is revolutionary for me, also the Metro UI will bring something new to the market.

4)Are you satisfied with WP7 Platform development tools?

Of course! I’m waiting the RTM version, because there are some bugs on the Beta tools.

5)What are the Apps you are developing now in WP7?

For the moment I’m developing two applications:

- Smarty: A tool that quickly identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Gas Station, Bar, Bank, Hospital, Hotel, etc….. For every listing you can choose to see its location on a Map, view the route from where you are, add it to your favourites, or post it on twitter, etc….

- Translator: A tool to translate words, phrases and even whole sentences into 30 languages. You also use the TEXT-TO-SPEECH feature, send a translated text via Email, SMS or post it on Twitter.

6)In what way Microsoft can improve their WP7 or What does WP7 lacks from?
The main thing is Silverlight compatibility with the desktop version, and some bugs on the emulator.

I hope that they will publish with developer tools an application which allows to automatically publishing applications/games on the Marketplace, instead of going to the website……

7)Future Plans of you?

Publish Smarty and Translator on the Marketplace. Also I’m building a game using XNA! That all what I can say! I have many ideas for “useful” applications that I will create later.

8)Apart from these questions,Other things you want to share with the community?
