Analyst asks if iPhone buyers are stupid

Rob Enderle, principal analyst for the Enderle group has done what most analysts have been afraid to do – take Apple to task for trying to fool the public. In his article Analyst Angle: Apple’s possible iPhone miss he highlights the many ways Apple has been trying to get away with over-promising and under delivering. With headlines likes Smoke and Mirrors, Betting on IT being stupid and Are iPhone buyers stupid, he raises issues such as the late delivery of the iPhone (In July rather than June), the stealth price increase (a $40 increase instead of a $200 decrease), the late release of enterprise tools only in September, and Apple basically copying Microsoft’s Mesh technology, but poorly.

Enderle concludes:

“This time, though, they aren’t just messing with the Apple fans but general consumers and were this not Apple I’d say this was sure to be a big problem, but since this is Apple, they may just get away with it. We’ll see.”

Unfortunately, as Rob implies, Apple fans are rather fanatical in their devotion (the Sun called them sheep-like) so, like with iPhone 1, a poor feature set and limited functionality is unlikely to have an impact on sales to the flock.

This is what I was trying to tell my dad yesterday but he’s an idiot. He keeps saying there’s nothing that can match the iPhone after seeing phones from different carriers and i had to explain to him that the iphone can’t even do most of the things my Dash can. It’ll be interesting to see what these idiots think when Microsoft steps it up and releases version 7, which should have the improved user interface they seem to want so much. I keep telling people that the only thing the iPhone has over Windows mobile is the user interface. Other than that, it’s behind. Microsoft needs to educate the public like they did with the Mojave Experiment.
