Android Ice Cream Sandwich Lifts Features From Windows Phone

Yesterday, Google revealed their latest update to Android called “Ice Cream Sandwich”. With Ice Cream Sandwich Google is trying to make Android usable by adding many improvements. Of course all of them are not their own ideas, they are lifted from other OS’s.

1) The concept of People Hub:

As Gizmodo notes,

The new contacts app—dubbed “People”—also brings this “magazine style”, large-thumnailed view to Android. It almost looks Metro-like even, with the solid colors and giant tiles. Even clicking a contact card in another app will bring up their quick contact card with a giant picture of their face, which is pretty good looking.

It also now features Windows Phone like switching conversation between SMS, IM, etc.. You can now group contacts similar to Windows Phones.

2) Metro Design:

Google said now they have their own design language (at least after 3 major versions of their OS, thank god ! !)  known as Roboto and its new font. It looks more like ‘Metro’ by putting content first.

3) App Switching:

Inspired from WebOS and Windows Phone, the app switching and tab switching in browser now is now turned into visual cards of apps flowing vertically instead of horizontal.

4) Apart from the above, Lock screen to camera feature is now part of Android Ice Cream Sandwich which is lifted from Windows Phone and even Metro Design’s pivot control is implemented in Android as swipe gestures to move between menus.

They are also adding folder organization to app management lifted from iOS and many little things are there which I left for you to find. Let us know about your thoughts on this Android innovation ! ! !
