Android on HTC HD2 “We are still working on it”

We’ll it seems the HTC HD2 Linux video player/Android port still has some life in it. The guys over at XDA are still working hard to get the port moving at train speed. So far they are still at the video player stage, and hopefully they can pass that soon, and hit that awesome booting Android 2.2 stage.

This port is something that I am sure a lot of people are looking for, and would pay to have it. I my self would not mind dual booting this, just so when my friend comes around with his Evo 4G, I can say “No problem dude, I know exactly what your saying, I have Android also.”

I think the creators of this port game should collect a little pledges (like for WP7 port) and maybe we will get a little more gas added to this still small flames.

What do you think? Do you want Android? Would you pay for it? How much? Would you replace WM? Comment below.

it will be very interesting and welcomed. I myself would certainly fork over cash to speed up the process.

While it would be cool (still playing with Ubuntu on his TP2) I've no real interest in it.

If I had wanted an Android phone, I would have bought one.

    • efjay

You are making too much sense, why buy an android phone when you can have a poorly functioning port on your shiny HD2? Guess you arent one of the "cool' kids. :)

Why pay for android, when you can have the great OS that is WM? Seriously, I'd prefer my Diamond to my HD2 with Android.

What's the point? Look at the poor state of the Touch Pro 2 port – it's been available for many months now and the XDA 'developers' can't even get the sound working. If you're waiting for Andriod on the HD2 I think you're in for a long wait, unless someone with some real knowledge pays some attention to this…

I'd probably pay £50 for a full port, although I'd want to try it out first.

When I bought my HD2 I thought it would probably be upgradeable to WM7. Even if it wasn't I thought that apps would be written to work on both WM6 and WM7. Now that WP7 is killing WM6 my HD2 is in a dead end.

I think HTC are missing a trick; given the very similar hardware they've already put Android onto I wouldn't have thought they'd have much trouble doing it on the HD2. They could make a bunch of extra cash and make the HD2 even more killer than it already is, especially with a dual boot.

Not sure there's room in the ROM for a dual boot though, at least on the non-T-Mobile version.

Good point, Bug! I would also spend some money for working port – let's say $60

  • http://twitter.com/CeeeFace @CeeeFace

I would totally spend money on a port. I love the HD2…and i miss my android system…however, i wouldn't switch to sprint for EVO..but have a really hard time adapting back to WinMo..

  • Gene Jones

I would like to "try" Android on my HD2 but wouldn't pay for it unless I could verify full functionality

  • TANK

i really look forward to see android on HD2…IMO it's better then WinMo

  • HOLD

I really want to put Android in my HTC HD2… and waiting for this moment. I can put 15$.

  • jared coover

i definitely would pay for android. i love my htc hd2 with the huge screen but the keyboard is laggy an the phone overall does not deliver like i had hoped. i think this is largely a part of the inefficient operating system.

  • AndroidNOTwm

i have had the g1 and love android. I bought the HD2 thinking that i would get over android but i really wish that i had it now. windows mobile kinda sucks. :(

  • Mr. Moneybaggs

ill pay whatever it takes to get android.

  • Alan

I used to have a G1 and was happy with Android, especially all the free apps on Android Market. The HD2 is ok but as with all versions of Windows Mobile it is a little skittish, I would prefer Android as the OS. I don't think we should have to pay however, it should be made available on the HTC website.

  • lo

i miss my G1 too, but i dnt like w.m ive been haveing to rest almost everyday!! i just cant wait untill the android rom comes out for the hd2 so i can dual boot. im about to buy tp2 so i can dual boot that and trick that out untill they comeout with a rom for the hd2, what would be great if they came out with a windows7 os and i can dual boot form windows 7 to android !!!!! but we shall see!!!

  • lo0o

reset* but i throw down some loot for them to hurry up and come out with a full working rom !! i know there will be bugg but thats what the make patches for!!!

  • adam

I would gladly pay $50 for a fully functional port of Android for the HD2. Anyone have any clue as to how long till a functional version is released?
