Apple admits to lying about iPhone security

In the latest iPhone OS update, version 3.1, Apple finally came clean about not supporting full device encryption, despite pretending to Exchange Servers who were requesting the device supports the policy that they did.

iPhone generation 1 and 2 owners who update to the latest version of the OS will find the following error if their Exchange Admin has requested full device encryptions on connecting smartphones:

Their only option is to beg the Exchange Admin to make an exception to the policy just for them, something which may violate several corporate security laws such as Sarbane Oxley.

The only other alternative would be to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS, something which would suite Apple very well of course. Apple may however not enjoy as much being held liable for intentionally exposing companies to criminal prosecution for violating security policies.

Windows Mobile has supported full device and storage card encryption since 2007.

Sadly it wont matter one jot, in fact all the isheep will probably think up some ridiculous defense and corps will not make a sound because in their view the iphone is perfect and can do no wrong and after all , it has all those apps.

sad but true. This wont matter one bit to the many millions of iSheeps because the concept of security on a smartphone is unbeknownst to them. You can't explain quantum mechanics to a retard nor can you explain "security" to an iphone user, of course, unless that user works in IT. People in the business who desires a higher state of security would already be using a blackberry or winmo smartphones, so this bit of news would probably end up being dusted under the rug.

I am the exchange admin for my company. I freaking HATE supporting them. Luckily, I have to admit, "they just work" most of the time. (For the record, our WM phones "just work" as well, but Crackberry? ehhhhh not so much.) However, if you ever get a chance, take a peak at the Application log sometime. You'll notice a ton of errors and warnings that are all related to how the iPhone syncs. For example, the iPhone, being the hog it is, pings the exchange server far more often than the WM phones. Apparently, the apple developers don't understand the concept of "push email." This will generate a lot of warnings as the Exchange server warns you about the unneeded overhead as to the server, it seems like the phone must have a terrible internet connection to constantly be hitting it like that.

Well, it is AT&T, so maybe it is the network!
