Asus P565 vs HTC Touch Diamond – video performance

Some may question why one needs an 800 Mhz processor in a smartphone. For those people Asus has a ready answer. Below are two videos comparing the video perfomace of the Asus P565 vs the HTC Touch Diamond, one running the VSBenchmark and the other an actual video.

The winner is very clear, and if video perfomance is important to you, the Asus P565 may be the smartphone for you.

This is not fact. The touch diamond performs very well with video. The special video ability with the qualcomm processor need to be utilized by the program. Since neither that benchmark or the video player use it then it’s not really a factual comparison. They should use CorePlayer on the diamond and test it again. How much power does the 800mhz processor drain?

This is kinda weird, since I own a Diamond, and I’ve watched 4 movies so far while in the train or waiting for the bus or something…

They work PERFECTLY and smooth too, I don’t understand how it can be so diffrent in the above video but the way it shows in the vid simply isn’t how it actually is.

Betaboy over at Coreplayer forum said the upcoming 1.3.0 will be fixes only, but with new features disabled. The version after that will enable ‘revised’ QTv to be used with MSM7201A.

So for the next couple of months the PXA31x 800Mhz will be king of multimedia for the time being.

The performance obviously depends on the bitrate and encoding, but it makes very much sense that a faster processor will manage better with high bitrate video.

You guys are in denial.

FACT: This new 800mhz Marvell processor blows the pants off any Qualcomm offering to date. No amount of software tweaking will change this.

To me, I welcome this news because it just means that HTC will have to up the ante with it’s next wave of phones. Personally, I’m tired of dealing with woefully inadequate processors in phones. HTC has been dropping the ball in this department for quite awhile (ie – http://www.htcclassaction.org/ ).

800mhz doesnt make a processor faster just like a 2.5 ghz P4 doesnt match a 1.6ghz Dothan. AMD vs. Intel is also another example.

The special QTv rendering does make them play it identically, just tell me the codec that was used and I will show you that I’m right.

Your right, the clock speed doesn’t always matter, but in this case it does.

The QTv rendering fix you speak of has been promised for quite awhile now. Maybe we’ll see that around the same time we see some decent video drivers ::rolls eyes:: . And regardless, how is this going to help the MSM7201A achieve better benchmark scores in vsbenchmark? It won’t. And as it stands right now, the Marvell processor is 2x faster.

Bottom line; The new Asus kicks arse right out of the box and doesn’t need any user tweaking to make it preform like it should have from the get go.

This is the only strong point though, that it is out of the box fast. No one is saying how much power it gulps down.

My Diamond plays MP4s OK with a little stuttering.
Lower bitrates play smoother. Of course the battery drops off pretty fast when doing it.
I can’t imagine the power consumption in that Asus or how they worked around that.
