Asus Playing Around

Reading over at Engadget, I saw a leaked image of what is suppose to be the first Asus WP7 device, and I am a bit disappointed. After seeing the disgrace that might be the first HTC device, this comes around and makes me think that when it comes to WP7… The hardware companies are not really trying.

Do not get me wrong, this phone is pretty attractive, with a clean look, 3 buttons, and a classy design. The phone does have a lot of wasted room that could easily be used as a screen extension or even like the Pre works, and have a touch sensitive bottom area.

I really do hope this is a pre version of the original, and they will add a little more screen to the mix. Other than that, the phone looks pretty awesome and hopefully it is released this year.

Working for WMPU is awesome. Love to write personal articles, and I do it very often. I am the reviewing editor (self appointed), so you will see alot of reviews and giveaways from me. I own quite a few devices not just Windows Phone but Android and others. I live in Minnesota, USA and love traveling to other places.

Looks like a pretty decent device to me, not every device will be a 4.3", super amoled, HDMI monster. Those will come, what matters most first of all is solid hardware with a faultless OS release, I dont think MS is looking or expecting to set the world alight just yet.

I don't think that it's the fact that this Asus or the leaked HTC WP7 devices aren't shaping up to be the next Evo that's the problem. It's rather that with a required set of hardware specifications that a company should have more time and more motivation (for the sake of differentiating its products from it's competitor's) to make a better looking product or add features to enhance the phone. So far there have been few WP7 devices that have done this. The Dell Lightning of course stands out as an exception so far and delivers on having a stylish look and a set of features that grabs your attention.

Of course, it's all too early to make any firm conclusions. There's still at least 2-3 months before Windows Phone 7 is released in NA and Europe so we'll know much more about all of the devices by then.

Well looks are subjective and I happen to think it looks sleek and well made and definitely not an iphone clone like the generic Samsung Galaxy S, and we dont know what, if any added features are on this handset. And we dont actually know the full specs of any handset at the moment, all we have so far are FCC docs and rumoured specs.

As you say, its too early to make any judgements until we have a full press release from manufacturers so I am not forming any hard opinions yet.

Well here's a newsflash WenWM, no-one cares about your personal opinion.

And if nothing else, please at least re-read what you've written before clicking the 'Post' button, as you seem to lack that as well.

If you're dyslexic, then merely say it, and no-one will take issue with that, but you seem like a perfectly able human being that is being overly lazy, just reeling off your latest thoughts to hundreds of people. Think about this: what makes you different to anyone else if you're not putting any effort?

    • Gadgetebz

@ nuke1 what sort of numpty are you?? really no need for comments like this… WenWM has a point that the phones need to be up to the same standard as Android devices!! He is just concerned that maybe they are selling WP7 short… My view is that there will be low and high end phones running WP7 so we should expect stunning ground breaking devices all the time… Possibly the top range devices have not been leaked yet?

What's your problem? The whole point of sites like this is that people like WenWM give their opinion. If, for some strange reason, you don't like it then don't bother reading it. I value WenWM's opinion more than I do your nasty comments so perhaps it would be better if you didn't bother visiting the site.

Also, your comments about WenWM's writing style are bang out of order. This whole issue is done and dusted and there's nothing wrong with the way this post is written.

  • cetla

Really Wen? you gonna have an outcry over just one leaked picture? wmpu has really become a drama scene for nerdom. I'll visit you guy much less from now on.

  • yoitsme

LOL you don't make any sense bra. You say its disappointing then at the end say the phone looks pretty awesome and hopefully it is released this year?
    Make up your freaking mind!!

    • Wen(WM)

Its and awesome device, but I think they can do better. Because they have to try to win the market

  • Jake

Count me as another long time viewer of the site that isn't coming back. The site has gone downhill rapidly in the last 4 months, much like the prospects for Windows Phone.
Posts like this don't add anything, if I want breaking news I'll go to Engadget. If I want opinion, I'll form my own.

    • Gadgetebz

You guys are crazy this is the best site for news on WP7 – Prospects for WP7 are great even your Iphone lovin buddies at Engadget say this…. Microsoft expect to sell 30 million world wide by end of 2011 so stop being so negative!!

I dont want touch sensitive buttons on a phone, they are annoying as hell. Only the screen should be touch sense.

  • random2k

not to be mean but I agree wen is a horrible contributor.
re read his posts they are horrible.

  • Fredrik72

I have to agree with WenWM, I think the design looks cheap and touch buttons are never a good idea. And I have yet to see a sexy Windows Phone 7 without keyboard. The HTC Mondrian looks just like an ordinary HTC without anything extra. What we need is something slim and sexy that can rival the iPhone4, not some recycled, uninspired designs.

  • jlccarv

i think the phone looks great (bar the serial number on its forehead of course). the screen looks AMOLED and hopefully its 3.7".

also, i think Wen's writing has improved considerably over the past few months and i encourage him to keep at it… peace
