Asus shows its Windows Phone 7 hand, first device spotted

asuswp7

We know Asus is a Windows Phone 7 launch partner, but so far we have only seen the uninspiring demo unit in public.

The above picture, from a Pakistani twitterer, is the first outing of what appears to be a production device, and it looks pretty good.

Of interest is what appears to be a front-facing camera, something confirmed for the Samsung Cetus, and suggesting that the presence of underlying software to support the technology, possibly using Live Messenger.

The design is pretty business-like, and I feel quite appealing.  Do our readers agree? Let us know below.

The screen is too small and the part below the screen is too big, waste of space

    • Guest

How can you possibly tell this is beyond me. You have no measurements, and no specs, but you can just tell right off the bat how bad it "obviously" is.

Seriously is it too much to just get some more info rather than play some 3rd rate version of an American Idol judge? I feel sorry for the people that make these devices only to have some clown on the internet blow off your work with nothing backing them up.

First you can clearly see how big the bezel around screen is so the screen could easily be bigger, just look at HD2. When both are compared you see that HD2 is almost only screen where on this one screen is only part of the front, personally I don't like this approach.

Second, show me android device that has similar sized buttons below the screen cause for me this is waste of space. They could have easily shrink it and still retain the usability, but no they decided to do big metallic buttons with huge windows button at the middle(and I thought that windows button on LG was big).

If you like it. Good for you! I don't so I'm expressing my disapproval for this one.

    • Blacked_Out

I love the simplicity and design, But as a HD2 owner, more screen and less buttons matter to me.
      Ill wait for HTC's offering.

I initially thought the same thing about the overall size but then I remembered that it will be at least 3.7 or 3.8 inchs for the screen size (standard for all WP7 handsets). The extra real estate could be there to make the phone thinner. So you could be looking at a really thin phone.

I wish there was another object in the picture to put it's size in perspective. I think the brushed metal looks pretty sweet and I would totally rock this device.

  • RDee

It looks very nice but I do tend to agree with wishmaster89 that the buttons could have been a little smaller or preferably being touch buttions that are built into the screen. That being said, I like the brush metal "looking" case. I guess the only thing that we need to know is well does it perform and what have they added to make the Asus brand rise to top of a mountain (hopefully) of new Windows Phones being released!

would be more interested in the dell lightning, and if it's coming to singapore or not
    asus…not that keen on it

  • nuke1

It is a teeny bit big… the space could've been utilised for a D-pad, for flaming once. But nope, just make an uber-big Windows phone button slap bang in the middle, why don't ya…

Looks like the Zune HD to me. But the Dell Lightning is still at the top of my list as long as it comes with either 16/32 GB storage.

Hoping that she gets some more photos.

    • djguapo

It really does look like Pavo (Zune HD), doesn't it?

  • smoothcrooner

Looks nice, but I doubt if I will be getting one. My mind is set on a Samsung phone 'cause it be sporting(well, hoping for) a Super AMOLED screen and a massive internal memory, like a 16/32 GB storage.

    • djguapo

I heard AMOLED is is short supply so we might not get devices with those screens at launch.

  • Travis

I for one am looking for a good design but a min 16gb memory. I got a lot of music and videos I would like to keep around with me.

Same here I feel limited with 8gb memory but I have a 16gb SD card and I have already filled it up. To compete with the iphone they need larger internal memory. Maybe like what Samsung does release the same phone by with different memory size options. HTC I hope that you are listening!
