AT&T and Nokia working on completing details of Lumia deal for USA

Bloomberg reports that AT&T and Nokia are in the process of completing their negotiations to bring Nokia’s new Windows Phones to the carrier.

The carrier is working on completing the details of the agreement, Glenn Lurie, head of Dallas-based AT&T’s tablets unit, said today.

The handsets are not expected to arrive imminently however.

“We look at every promotional period separately and decide what we’re going to spend our dollars on and what we’re going to put our efforts in,” Lurie said in an interview during a conference organized by Morgan Stanley in Barcelona. “But nothing to announce there on that yet.”

At the same conference Stephen Elop said Nokia was planning to bring a portfolio of Windows Phone 7 handsets to multiple carriers in USA early next year.

A sticking point may be the amount of promotion AT&T will be asked to provide for Nokia handsets.  While Nokia has demanded equal billing with the iPhone in UK and France, the company has much less brand cachet in USA.
