The updates for Theme+ keep coming, bringing new content and features to an increasingly delightful app.
With the latest update, a new set of crystal-like patterns, emulating the “low poly” look that’s trending right now, was added, for a total of 48 unique background designs. The app now has 6 different pattern sets, and 50 hand-picked colors —if you do the math, that’s a lot of content for a 120 KB app!
A new setting for saving backgrounds to custom folders was also added, along with performance improvements. Coupled with background color combinations specific to each pattern set, a setting the customize the shuffle button behavior, and some tweaks and bug fixes, you have a lot to explore.
Be sure to download Theme+ from the Store for US$0.99. There’s also a free trial available, and an offer to let you unlock all features for free: just go to About > Free Ticket for more information!
Since the last time Theme+ was covered, it has picked up a couple of updates that have added a lot to the experience.
Beginning with version 1.5, a new set of hexagonal patterns was added to the growing collection. Along with it, a new shuffle button was implemented, so users can easily and quickly generate interesting color combinations, giving the app a new dimension.
After this, two minor versions were published. The behavior of the next button was modified to jump between pattern sets; buttons were enlarged for ease of use; and pattern sets were ordered logically. While not groundbreaking stuff, they helped polish the overall experience.
Today’s update, version 1.6, adds a new set of square (diamond) patterns, for a total of 5 sets of 8 custom-designed patterns —enough to keep you entertained for a long time! It also adds a setting to disable the transparent Live Tile, letting you customize the app with an indigo color; for folks who prefer the classic look of the Windows Phone start screen.
But enough talk. Grab Theme+ at the Store for US$0.99, or download a free trial. Consider requesting a free ticket to let you use all features by going to About > Free Ticket!
If you’re a fan of Start screen backgrounds for Windows Phone 8.1, you’ll be glad to know Theme+ has been updated twice to allow even more customization.
The previous week saw version 1.3 of the app, which added a nifty feature: the ability to choose up to three colors per background. It sounds trivial at first, but this simple setting allows you to create an endless amount of variations that wasn’t possible before.
Today, version 1.4 was published, which is even more significant. Here’s the changelog:
- Added new set of triangular patterns (a la low poly), for a total of 24 custom-designed patterns.
- Added nine new colors: four pastel, and five neon, for a palette of 50 curated colors.
- Better performance when selecting a color; now the action is immediate.
- Huge app size reduction: from 5 MB to 90 KB. Useful for people with little space left.
Intrigued? Tired of the same Start screen backgrounds? Give Theme+ a try by downloading the free trial at the Store! Or just buy the full version for US$0.99.
Theme+, the simple yet delightful Start screen customization app, was covered recently. Since then, it has picked up two updates.
The first one adds a new set of patterns — this time, instead of being strictly polygonal, they’re circular, which gives the Start screen an organic, natural look. There’s a total of 16 patterns to play with, which, combined with 41 colors from the color palette, makes the possibilities practically endless.
The second update adds a system that allows users to request a free ticket to test all features. The process is simple, and it’s explained in About > Free Ticket, which will be visible only to those using the trial version.
This is a pretty neat feature, and everyone can take advantage of it. Theme+ costs US$0.99, but this allows you to test all features, without limit, before taking the plunge.
Get Theme+ at the Windows Phone Store, or just scan the QR code. Again, it only works with phone with the 8.1 update.

Stopwatch+, the simple yet delightful time-keeping app, has been relaunched —this time without ads, and best of all, free for a limited time!
If you recall, this app, by Aälejandro Díazs, is the second one from the M+ suite, which focuses on user experience and simplicity. To recap, here’s a short description from the Store:
With its high reliability, it allows you to keep track of any event, as it works in the background, under the lock screen, and even if the phone is completely turned off.
Beautifully Modern, from app icon to page transitions, it’s as intuitive as a native application. Optimized for Windows Phone 8 —and Windows Phone 7.8—, it supports Live Tiles, Kid’s Corner, instant launch, instant resume and fast app switching. The UI is optimized for WVGA, WXGA and 720p resolutions.
- Live Tile: small, medium and wide. The icon changes when the stopwatch is running.
- Sharing: support for sharing via messaging, email and social networks.
- Idle screen detection: keep the screen on while the stopwatch is running.
- Button feedback: vibration, beep, or vibration + beep.
- Clipboard: easily copy laps to the clipboard, allowing you to export them.
- Settings: Live Tile color, keep screen on while running, button feedback, and confirm before clearing.
Due to its relaunch, it’ll remain free for a while, but be sure to download it now so you don’t miss on the offer! If you love precision, and enjoy a wonderfully minimal experience, you’ll definitely love Stopwatch+.
A new version of Stopwatch+ is available for download, bringing a couple of interesting features to the table. If you remember, Note+ introduced Kid’s Corner with the previous release, so it was a matter of time for Stopwatch+ would get the same treatment.
Being the first time-keeping app to include this feature, it allows your kids play around with the app without clearing your lap times or ruining your stopwatch session.
The new release also focuses on usability. The buttons for start/stop, clear and add lap are on the small side, so you had to be careful not to miss them when tapping —not anymore, since the touch target for them are now bigger. Coupled with haptic feedback (vibration), and/or a beep sound when they’re pressed, you’ll surely know when you added a lap or stopped the session.
Another neat addition is on the sharing feature: it now includes the worst lap of the session, as well as best lap, total number of laps, average lap time and total time, making it a really valuable resource for serious athletes and trainers.
Last but not least, the usual minor bug fixes and speed improvements were included, making it more stable and reliable. You can get Stopwatch+ for free at the Store, so give it a try if you haven’t!
With version 2.7, Note+ focuses on speed improvements for Windows Phone 7 and 8 —so fast, the experience feels like a truly native app. Speed has always been one of its main attributes, but never before has it opened, created and edited notes as fast as it does now.
Another big part of the update is Kid’s Corner integration —the first note-taking app to take advantage of this feature. So, what is it about? Simply put, it allows you to separate notes written by yourself from the ones written by your kids. This way, they’re able to type and play as long as they want, without modifying or deleting your notes. Just add Note+ to Kid’s Corner, and you’re good to go.
Finally, a lot of other small improvements were added, including the ability to lock screen orientation to either portrait or landscape mode, depending on how you’re holding the phone when you enable the option. The main Live Tile, and lock screen notifications, will only update when there’s a featured note, and setting a Security PIN won’t disable Live Tiles.
Get Note+ at the Windows Phone Store for US$1.29, or try before you buy. For being a simple yet delightful note-taking app, it offers a lot of innovative and practical features.
A couple weeks ago, Stopwatch+, the simple yet delightful time-keeping app, was released. This week, its first update is being introduced, which includes general bug fixes; but more importantly, the ability to remove ads.
Thanks to WP8′s in-app purchase system, the process is quite simple: you go to Settings, tap the “Remove ads” toggle switch, navigate to the Store, then complete the purchase using your favorite paying mechanism. You then return to the app, and the ads magically disappear.
This feature is running for US$0.99, which is a fair price to pay to never again see an ad. Furthermore, because there’s more screen real state, you’ll be able to see the current best lap without navigating to the lap list.
Stopwatch+ is free out of the box, so get it at the Windows Phone Store, or scan the QR code to download it directly to your phone.
Stopwatch+ is a simple yet delightful time-keeping app. It’s the second M+ app by Aälejandro Díazs —the first being Note+.
With its high reliability, it allows the user to keep track of any event, working in the background, under the lock screen, and even if the phone is completely turned off. It’s really precise, too, unlike most stopwatches on the Store.
Beautifully Modern, from app icon to page transitions, it’s as intuitive as a native application. Optimized for Windows Phone 8, it supports Live Tile, instant launch, instant resume and fast app switching, as well as WXGA and 720p resolutions. It’s also available for Windows Phone 7, optimized for 7.8.
If you love reliability and precision, and enjoy a wonderfully minimal experience, you’ll love Stopwatch+.
- Live Tile: small, medium and wide. The handle of the app icon subtly changes position when the stopwatch is running.
- Sharing: support for sharing laps via messaging, email and social networks, including stats such as best lap, total time and average lap time.
- Idle screen detection: by default, Stopwatch+ keeps the screen on while it’s running, so you can be confident you won’t miss a lap.
- Clipboard: easily copy laps to the clipboard, allowing you to paste them in your favorite app.
- Settings: keep screen on while running, Live Tile color, and confirm before clearing.
- Modern to the core: looks and behaves like a native app, including instant launch, instant resume, fast app switching, beautiful and fluid transitions, and authentically digital design.
Stopwatch+ is free, supported with discrete ads,. Get it at the Windows Phone Store, or scan the QR code to download it directly to your phone.
With the previous update, Note+ got SkyDrive support for backup. This time around, SkyDrive support gets completed: it now includes a really convenient restore function.
After you’ve created a backup, which gets stored in the Documents folder on SkyDrive, you simply tap the restore button. It’ll search for the file, decrypt it —as it used AES encryption before uploading—, then ask if you want to replace all notes. After the user confirms, the notes from the backup are immediately presented on the notes list.
Now, secondary Live Tiles have been revamped: instead of showing the note’s content on the back of the tile, it’s shown on the front, allowing the user to quickly read it without having to wait for it to flip. However, it maintains the flip animation, showing the Note+ icon on the back; so it’s still a live tile.
Finally, a ContextMenu was added to the notes list, making it possible to quickly share, copy to clipboard, pin to start and delete notes without having to go inside each one of them. This menu is accessed by long-pressing a note.
You can get Note+ at the Windows Phone Store for US$1.29. Future updates are expected, which will introduce even more useful and practical features for a better note-taking experience.
Note+, a simple yet delightful note-taking application, was updated today to include one of the most user-requested features: SkyDrive backup.
The feature is really simple, allowing the user to manually upload a backup to the Documents folder on SkyDrive. This backup is secure, created using AES encryption, which makes it impossible to steal information by a person who gets access to the file. Furthermore, it can’t be modified by the user, potentially making it unusable.
SkyDrive sync, or the ability to restore the notes using this backup, is coming in the next update. The reason is to exhaustively test this security-critical feature before releasing it to the public, and guarantee a working solution using the Live Connect API.
Other features are included with the update, including a new setting to lock the screen orientation to portrait, and an easier to discover Live Tile which allows the creation of new notes from the Start screen.
You can download Note+ at the Windows Phone Store for US$1.29, and with features like Live Tiles, Speech Recognition, Voice Commands, Lock Screen Notifications, Security PIN, sharing, and more, it’s practically a bargain.
