Windows Mobile Zune…Speculation!

Once again its Zune Phone speculation time!

I dont know about you guys, but i actually love this.

My contract with my current carrier is not up for another year, so the longer it is post poned the better chances of me getting a subsidized Zune phone.

Probably a strange way of looking at it…but!
All I need is a what we mentioned in our previous article on the ZuneHD  but with a send and end button to dial out.

Some of us (most of our readers here) have already experienced windows 6.5 and love it! (How are you with it Wreid?).

it does have its bugs but…it is a “BETA”. And for the most part it reminds you of the Zune interface!

There are tons of thread dedicated to customizing even windows 6.5 already!

The question we pose now is…what do you want or would like from your ZuneHD phone?

let us know and we can see what we can do (a little less than nothing but..)!

Motorola Qwerty headed to Verizon

I am going to assume its the Treo and Blackberry effect, cause apparently it is a high demand for these Qwerty devices over here in the US (and possible abroad). The newest device to jump on the bandwagon is the Motorola A4500. The thing is…this device is pretty good looking!

The first handset, the Motorola A4500, is almost a lockdown for the carrier, considering that it was outed by the FCC. As PhoneScoop points out, the A4500 has similarities to the Motorola Q9c/Motorola Q9m but adds quad-band world roaming, Wi-Fi, a 2-megapixel camera, and a fingerprint scanner. The Windows Mobile 6.1 device will also offer stereo Bluetooth and EV-DO support. While the Verizon Wireless and Apple talks are dominating headlines these days, the iPhone isn’t for everyone and it looks like there might be two other noteworthy devices that are headed Verizon’s way. More specifically, two QWERTY smartphones from HTC and Motorola.

Verizon XV6175 By HTC

Verizon wireless is really making a name for itself in the Windows Phone world, with one of there top selling phones, the Samsung Omnia and now this little number.

The HTC XV6175 is the newest QWERTY Windows Phone coming to America`s #1 carrier. This is further proof that Verizon is listening (Can you hear me now?…keep doing this Verizon!) by maintaining a selection of good phones in there arsenal.

Over at Engadget.com (who is listening as well, they are not AS biased as of late) have found this gem of news on the upcoming release of this direct competitor to the T-Mobile Snap, also soon to be released. This blogger thinks, are touch based devices…losing there luster?  Seems their are alot of QWERTY devices and devices that were previously touch (see the new Omnia) are getting keyboards lately.

Either way, for the guy or gal that needs to text and drive (we dont recommend this) and likes the feeling of actual keys, Verizon, HTC and Windows Mobile has you covered!

Now THIS is a pretty cool app!

If like me, you are preparing your abs and arms for the beach your trusty Winmo device is here to help!

Calorie GPS is the first caloric consumption calculator for Windows Mobile devices that provides fairly accurate statistics based on the GPS readings and a few user-defined factors. The GPS readings include distance travelled, current velocity, acceleration changes, and can also include altitude changes. The factors include body weight, terrain characteristics, and activity type:

  • Skateboarding
  • Bicycling
  • Skating, roller skating
  • Paddling, rowing
  • Skiing
  • Running

GPS technology

RNS: Calorie GPS uses the GPS technology to calculate the amount of calories that your body burns. It will work together with a GPS receiver connected to your mobile device or integrated with it. With its help it will track your location, calculate your speed, and distance travelled. Using this information it will constantly estimate the current caloric consumption of your body, as well as calculate the total amount of calories burnt.

Give it a try, the cab is here:

Microsoft Quarterly Report!

Nothing particularly exciting…

Blame it on the recession- doom and gloom

We kind of care about:

REDMOND, Wash.  Apr. 23, 2009  Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $13.65 billion for the third quarter ended March 31, 2009, a 6% decline from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $4.44 billion, $2.98 billion and $0.33 per share, which represented an increase of 3% and declines of 32% and 30%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.

What interest us:

“With our continued R&D investment and our broad suite of products and services, we remain in a great position to compete and gain share in the marketplace,” said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft. During the quarter, Microsoft released the beta version of the Windows 7 operating system, which remains on track for a fiscal year 2010 launch. Development milestones were achieved on other products including Microsoft Office 2010, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Mobile.

Microsoft is focused on the next quarter and more over is looking forward to 2010.

Netbooks sold, Xbox up 30% and 2009 looks grim…

4th quarter we will see windows mobile phones!!!!??

All done not much winmo news…mainly OS related.

SPB3 the verdict: What are your thoughts?

So, it is out in the wild and if you are on this site…you have either seen it or bought it.
How are we feeling about SPB Mobile Shell 3?
I know this fan boy is sold!
I purchased my copy the day it was released, only because I was already in eager anticipation.
St. Petersburg advised us all that MS3 would be released on March 31st to consumers.
But…we didn’t get it until this week!
Nonetheless, it is out and in my opinion, IT ROCKS!
With features like Facebook integration, an altogether fast experience and the all too lovely…Carousel, MS3 is a great upgrade from MS2.
From perusing the various forums, I am not alone in this. A lot of users have admittedly started using MS3 in lieu of TouchFlo 3D (which I heard makes their device slow anyway). MS2 had a very heavy customization following, so we are hoping to get some MS3 customization soon. It is a few issues needless to say; when it switches from portrait to landscape it is a delay. Some applications randomly close for no reason at all…
To a novice, (which is none of us who read Wmpoweruser) they will think that it is very busy. It is a lot to do but…as a Windows Mobile guy, I LOVE THAT!
PPCGeeks.com and I am sure XDA has a lot of registry tweaks (already!) so it is even more customizable. Other than that, Mobile Shell 3 is a very solid program with tons of applications. So, we are curious to hear your input if you will. What would you like to see what do you not like (any tips on tweaks?) hit the comment button and let loose!

HTC Touch Pro2 with T-Mobile Branding

More shots of the beautiful HTC Touch Pro2 (or in some circles the HTC Rhodium) have shown up on the spider Web. The T-Mobile branding and Non -European keys leads us to believe this is coming to the US.

This phone could very well get T-Mobile US alot of subscribers…from what we see in the forums.

Windows Mobile Ultrasound

We have heard of Micosofts Silverlight application in the medical field
But this new Microsoft funded venture could EASILY revolutionize the medical world.

Computer engineers at Washington University in St. Louis are bringing the minimalist approach to medical care and computing by coupling USB-based ultrasound probe technology with a smartphone, enabling a compact, mobile computational platform and a medical imaging device that fits in the palm of a hand.

William D. Richard, Ph.D., Washington University Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and David Zar, Washington University Research Associate in Computer Science and Engineering, have made commercial USB ultrasound probes compatible with Microsoft Windows Mobile-based smartphones, thanks to a $100,000 grant Microsoft awarded the two in 2008.

In order to make commercial USB ultrasound probes work with smartphones, the researchers had to optimize every aspect of probe design and operation, from power consumption and data transfer rate to image formation algorithms. As a result, it is now possible to build smartphone-compatible USB ultrasound probes for imaging the kidney, liver, bladder, and eyes, endocavity probes for prostate and uterine screenings and biopsies, and vascular probes for imaging veins and arteries for starting IVs and central lines.

Both medicine and global computer use will never be the same.

Now…dont you guys get any un-settling ideas out there!

UCWeb Windows Mobile Browser Rocks!

Have you tried UCWeb yet?  No?

YOU SHOULD!

UCWeb is a web browser that works similar to Opera Mini; it caches website on UCWeb servers and shoots them back to you VERY fast. Not only can you surf the normal web, UCWeb allows you to browse WAP sites such as 3g.qq.com effortlessly. With over 60 Million users (mainly China users), UCWeb is a very popular Mobile Browsing platform for Symbian and now Windows Mobile devices. On top of being a super fast browser, One of the highlights of UCWeb is how configurable it is. For example, using Opera can use a lot of memory if you do not have your cache directed to your storage card, UCWeb makes changing your cache location very simple in the settings. You can also change the skins which is VERY cool!
Give it a try…did I mention it is free?

Windows Mobile App Store – By XDA Developers!

Finally!

I am a Windows Mobile Purist…

I prefer a Windows life (being that I am a Microsoft Certified Professional I am sure), I just find it easier. I was one who never had problems with Vista, am excited by Windows 7 and I am currently trying to learn how to write apps for Windows Mobile.

I just think Windows (Mobile) is just…Better!

The guys over at XDA Developers (who I am sure agree with me LOL) have taken us one step further to a complete Mobile Operating System domination (Insert evil genius laugh here ).

They have been working on a Windows Mobile app store that functions like “Apple’s App Store along with Ubuntu Package Manager”. It is still under development but I can see this being a Giant step at propelling Windows Mobile application installation. If you check out the site now you can even be a contributor to its development by helping to pick out the name!

I put my vote in for Gecko App Manager
