WNM Live Expands to iPhone and Now Has Over 370,000 Users!

WNM Live, the previously Windows Phone exclusive location-based social network, has announced that it is now available to iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users via a newly released application available in the Apple App Store.  This is one of the few, if not only, examples of an application starting on Windows Phone 7 and then being ported to the iPhone platform and symbolizes the maturity of the Windows Phone 7 app platform.   WNM Live recently announced that it had surpassed 370,000 users.  With the support for these new platforms, you can expect that the social network will likely continue to grow at an even greater rate.

For those of you not already familiar with WNM Live, it is a free application which connects you with people living near you, or across the globe, and allows you to exchange text/picture instant messages with them, along with a plethora of other features, including free Wi-Fi voice calling.  In a nutshell, WNM Live is the Facebook for making new friends.  The application has been in the Marketplace since before Windows Phone 7 was first released to the general public in 2010.  You can view this site’s video review of the application here.

WNM Live is now available for Windows Mobile 6, Windows Phone 7, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Facebook, and the Web.

WNM Live Brings Free VOIP Voice Calls to Windows Phone 7

The location-based social network, WNM Live™, beats both Tango and Microsoft’s own Skype in being the first to add free VOIP calls to the Windows Phone 7 platform.

WNM Live from SynergeTech Solutions™ was updated today for the Windows Phone 7 platform. The location-based social network’s latest update adds a number of new features that further enables WNM Live’s users to meet and connect with other people nearby. Most significant of the new features is the ability to place and receive voice calls over a data connection (VOIP). This is the first application for the Windows Phone 7 platform to enable such functionality.

Many of the new features included in the update for the Windows Phone 7 application have also been added to the service’s Facebook application, as well as the WNMLive.com website. For instance, users from any of the platforms will be able to call one another using the new voice calling functionality – mobile devices, PC, and Mac users are all included.

WNM Live’s features now include:

• Search profiles of other users based on criteria such as distance, interests, gender, or age
• Find users looking for friendship, chat, networking, or romance
• Send free text and picture messages with other users
• Create a profile for yourself, complete with photos
• Read, contribute, or comment on a public local stream of group conversations
• Send and receive free voice phone calls (VOIP) with users of any platform
• Earn points, rank of the leaderboard, and exchange virtual gifts with other users

WNM Live is the only app for Windows Phone 7 that allows users to meet new people and interact based on their location. The free application shows you other users near you that share your common interests. When a user finds someone they are interested in, they can send free text and picture messages and now can also make free voice calls over a data connection. All of this can be done while remaining as anonymous as the user chooses.

The Windows Phone 7 application has been the recipient of numerous awards, including 2nd place in Microsoft’s 1st annual Windows Phone 7 App Challenge that took place in Los Angeles, CA during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in June of 2011. WNM Live is free and has over 350,000 users. The update can be downloaded from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace or from the WNM Live website.

WNM Live App Updated For Windows Phone Mango!

Live Stream Nearby People

The latest application to be updated for the upcoming release of Windows Phone 7.5, or Mango, is the WNM Live application. The update, version 1.13, was released to the marketplace yesterday for users with Mango to begin downloading.

For those who are not already familiar with WNM Live, it is a cross-platform, location-based, social network designed to introduce you to new people that you do not already know.  The application lets you browse user profiles, send and receive text and picture messages, or participate in the Live Stream – a public, location-centric feed that is a mix between Facebook’s newsfeed and a message board.  The service is also fully accessible via the wnmlive.com website.  The application has been available on Windows Phone 7 since the platform was first launched, although until recently it was known as “Who’s Near Me.”

This latest update for Mango is primarily a “behind-the-scenes” update.  The entire core of the application was re-written to take advantage of the new performance-enhancing features of Mango.  That work has definitely paid off.  Where lists in the application once lagged, things are consistently smooth as butter.  Messages arrive instantaneously, screens transition in an instant, and the overall experience using the application is tremendously more positive.  Whether you are a daily user of WNM Live, someone who hasn’t checked out the app for awhile, or this is your first time hearing about it, this latest update is definitely worth checking out for yourself.

The publishers plan on releasing another update once Mango is officially released to a wider audience.  A number of new features will be added at that time that make use of even more of Mango’s new APIs.  This update is also reported to contain a first for Windows Phone 7: free WiFi voice calls!  Check out a screenshot of this new feature below!

Who’s Near Me App Updated – New “Local News Feed” Feature

The mobile, location-based, social network / “friend-finder app” for Windows Phone 7, Who’s Near Me, was updated today to version 1.11. This new version includes a slew of the most user requested features. The most noteworthy of the additions are:

  • Local News Feed – Similar to your Facebook news feed, except it contains posts from strangers near you. Anyone can comment on anyone’s posts. You can follow posts and be notified when they are commented on.
  • Re-organized People Screen – The People Screen has been re-organized to make it easier for you to find people nearby. A new “Online” view shows only users that have the application open at that moment.
  • Is Typing Notifications – Taking a page from the Kik application, WNM now shows when the other user is typing a message.
  • Many other improvements and minor new features

The release was done to coincide with the social network’s achieving 325,000 users – which they did earlier this morning. The website for Who’s Near Me was also updated today and now includes full access to the local news feed, and all the app’s other features from any web browser.

Who’s Near Me Wins 2nd Place in Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 App Challenge at WPC 11

A few days ago, nine finalists presented their Windows Phone 7 applications at Microsoft’s 2011 Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angeles, CA in hopes of being recognized as the Best Windows Phone 7 application as part of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 App Challenge contest.  The nine finalists were selected by Microsoft’s judges from a pool of over 500 submitted applications based on factors such as feature-set, Metro design, uniqueness, and wow-factor.  The event was hosted by Laura Foy, the host of Channel9’s Hot Apps show.  The event was recorded and you will be able to watch it on-demand from Microsoft’s Channel9 website sometime in the very near future.

Although all nine finalist applications’ presentations were met with overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience approval, two applications emerged as the clear leaders:  Executive Caddie and Who’s Near Me.  Executive Caddie is a GPS range-finder and score-keeping application for Golf enthusiasts.  The application contains thousands of golf courses nation-wide and puts the most complete collection of course data literally at your fingertips.

You might remember the other application, Who’s Near Me, from one of the articles that we have posted about it over the past year.  Who’s Near Me is a proximity-based (location) social network that allows you to anonymously connect with strangers near you in real-time with free text and picture messaging, group chat, and more.  This website has been following the Who’s Near Me social network since it was first released for the Windows Mobile platform over a year ago.  The network is now also accessible on Windows Phone 7, as well as any mobile or desktop web browser at whosnearme.net.  With now over 320,000 users, the network has grown significantly in the past year since we first reported about it.

The final results of the contest were Executive Caddie in 1st place, with Who’s Near Me behind it at 2nd place.  3rd place was awarded to the “Push To Start” application.

Who’s Near Me – Now Available As Free Download

Tweets Near Me LogoEver wonder who else in your city is up at 3:45 AM with nothing to do? Well, SynergeTech Solutions has come up with a killer application called Who’s Near Me to answer just that question for you! Of course, Who’sNear Me can also be used during the daylight hours as well.

Who’s Near Me is a proximity based social networking application.  Unlike how most social networking applications allow you to keep in touch with your social network, Who’s Near Me helps you build your social network.  Who’s Near Me displays a list of users (complete with their photo, gender, age, distance, and bio) based upon your current location. The application uses cell tower data to triangulate your position – just like Google Maps does. This means that it works without GPS!  You can then select anyone from that list to start an anonymous conversation with.  If you want you can choose to meet them in person. Or you can just block them.

Who’s Near Me is the perfect Windows Mobile application for building business contacts, making new friends, finding a sports partner, or even finding a date. The application does not use your cell phone’s text messages so you won’t get a huge bill from using it.  You choose to share as much or as little about yourself as you would like and the messages are always sent anonymously.

The application is 100% free. It is still in beta test but all the major bugs have already been worked out of the program.  In the coming weeks, the application will be added to the Microsoft Marketplace for Mobile and you should expect a large influx of users online at that time.  The application – with a number of very intresting unannounced features – will also be available for the Windows Phone 7 platform by the launch.  You can learn more and download Who’s Near Me at the SynergeTech Solutions website.

Whos Near Me for Windows Mobile Logo Icon

SynergeTech Solutions has recently announced a new geo-proximity based social networking application/service called Who’s Near Me for the Windows Mobile platform.

The software establishes your location using cell tower triangulation and displays a list of other users in your area. You can begin an anonymous text message conversation with anyone you want – for professional networking, romance, friendship, or just to chat with a stranger. Your personal information is never disclosed.

Whos Near Me is a free service and is currently entering into beta testing. SynergeTech Solutions is actively seeking out Windows Mobile users that would be intrested in participating in the early stages of this application’s testing. The software will run on any Windows Mobile 5.x or 6.x device.

Craigslist Application for Windows Mobile Phones Now Available!

SynergeTech Solutions has recently released the Craigslist for Windows Mobile application. Users of other Smartphone platforms, such as the iPhone, have had the benefit of similiar software for some time. Windows Mobile users are no longer left behind when it comes to browsing Craigslist on their phones!

The application runs on all Windows Mobile devices and has been shown to be up to 25 times faster than using the Windows Mobile browser to access Craigslist! It is able to accomplish such an amazing feat by implementing a number of techniques to pre-filter, compress, and optimize the Craigslist advertisment and posting data to maximize the limited networking capabilities of cell phones.

In addition to allowing for much more efficient use of the phone’s data connection and returning quicker results to your searches, the application also displays the results in a mobile friendly display. The display highlights key pieces of information, such as price, and also allows you to drill down for more information with a single click. You can even quickly view a posting in the phone’s web browser if you ever need to see the original post.

You can learn more about Craigslist for Windows Mobile at the SynergeTech Solutions website. The product costs $4.99 USD to purchase. International currencies and payment methods are accepted.
