All musicians know that practicing a well-tuned musical instrument is important for developing a good ear, however not everybody realize that the instrument may get detuned pretty soon due to temperature or humidity drifting. Airyware Tuner Lite can help you tune it back to the perfection, thanks to the same 64-bit NeatTimbreâ„¢ DSP engine taken from the paid version. The app has just been updated to version 1.2 and provides broader instrument coverage, better precision and slightly faster response. High-contrast full screen gauge with up to 0.1 cent accuracy within 9 octave tuning range – who would not want it and for free?

Airyware Tuner is a professional orchestral strobe tuner for string and wind musical instruments. Like many other chromatic tuners it listens to the note you play, and then displays how far out of tune the pitch is. What is so special about Airyware Tuner? It simply does the job better. This tuner is built on 64-bit NeatTimbreâ„¢ DSP engine and optimized for Windows Phone hardware so all saved CPU cycles are effectively used to run complex algorithms of spectrum analysis. As a result, it detects pitches faster and preciser.
Version 1.3 adds a direct support for more than 400 instruments and more than 900 different tunings in total. For example, there are 14 alternative tunings for violin, 19 for hardingfele, 70 for 6-string guitar. You can organize your instruments and tunings into quickly accessible, short list of favorite presets – a helpful feature not commonly found in other tuners. The active preset is displayed on the screen as a several tappable buttons. Tapping or holding the button causes correspondingly single or triple playback of the note – very handy if you are tuning by ear or just want to explore tunings. Airyware NeatTimbreâ„¢ DSP engine also got upgraded to the new version. Claimed precision stands this tuner out as a device suitable for instrument repairs. For example, now you can easily fix the intonation of your guitar without a help of an expert. The app runs on all OS versions including latest Windows Phone 8.0 devices.

Airyware Tuner Lite is a free lightweight version of popular multi-instrument chromatic tuner for Windows Phone. The same 64-bit NeatTimbreâ„¢ tuning engine provides fastest and most accurate pitch detection within wide 9 octave range. The high-contrast fullscreen belt-type gauge is easy to read even from distance. This version lacks some features found in paid version, but if you just need to quickly fix a slightly detuned instrument, this is a right choice tool.
Young Windows Phone application Airyware Tuner tries to outperform the most popular (5+ mln downloads) guitar tuner application from Android platform (gStrings). Both apps are so-called chromatic tuners which mean they can detect a pitch of an arbitrary note.
As the primary goal of such applications is both highest possible precision and lowest possible latency, the comparison is scoped down to these two factors and does not cover other features such as noise reduction or temperament support.
FREE TRIAL is fully functional and ad-free, check it out.According to the video, both apps perform equally well for strings 1 to 4 (E4, B3, G3, D3) of acoustic guitar, however identifying low pitch strings 5 and 6 (A2, E2) is somewhat difficult for gStrings while seems to be an easy task for Airyware Tuner. The reason of success is the modern signal processing algorithms optimized for Windows Phone hardware as it is claimed on Airyware Tuner support website tuner.airyware.com
Airyware Tuner is a chromatic strobe tuner designed and optimized especially for windows phones. Powered by 64-bit NeatTimbre™ DSP engine it provides a robust pitch tracking through wide 9 octave tuning range from 15 Hz to 8000 Hz (~C0…B8). The ability to reliably detect low frequencies (< 90 Hz) on smartphones allows precise tuning of such instruments as bass guitar or contrabass. Other interesting features include the reduction of background noise, support of external (headset) microphone and dual display of both stroboscopic and linear gauge as well as wave-stabilized oscilloscope view. Nice looking visual elements and smooth 30 frames per second animation provide a pleasant user experience.
Other features are common to other tuners and include the calibration of reference pitch, audition of target notes, user feedback and feature request forms, etc. This app is currently most expensive ($4.99) tuner available on the Marketplace, but it works excellent. Check it out yourself.
