HTC 7 Pro on Sprint prove CDMA rumours wrong

We have heard there will be no CDMA Windows Phone 7 devices any time soon.
The HTC 7 Pro proves this wrong, and looks good in the process.
HTC 7 Pro
Internally, it’s roughly the same phone ticking away as the various other WP7 handsets HTC is launching, with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 576MB of ROM and 16GB of internal storage. That extra memory will be hugely appreciated, I’m sure. It’s a little smaller in size than some of the other handsets, despite its slide-out keyboard. It measures 117.5 x 59 x 15.5mm, and weighs 183.5 grams, and is crammed full with the usual specs, along with a 5MP camera with LED flash (capable of shooting 720p video), and a more powerful battery at 1500mAh.

Microsoft and Partners Unveil Windows Phone 7 Global Portfolio
Press Release: REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 11, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. today joined its partners in revealing nine new Windows Phone 7 handsets that will be available this holiday season from leading mobile operators in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. With more than 60 mobile operators in over 30 countries worldwide committed to bringing Windows Phones to market, the millions of people around the world looking for a phone that plays as hard as it works will have a variety of phones from leading device-makers to choose from.
“We have a beautiful lineup in this first wave of Windows Phone 7 handsets,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft. “Microsoft and its partners are delivering a different kind of mobile phone and experience — one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a ‘glance and go’ format.”
Global Portfolio
Microsoft and its partners have worked together closely to create a different kind of phone with new experiences that bring together what people care about most. Windows Phone 7 will be available in a variety of sleek form factors from device-makers such as Dell, HTC Corp., LG and Samsung, and from mobile operators including América Móvil, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, Movistar, O2, Orange, SFR, SingTel, Telstra, TELUS, T-Mobile USA and Vodafone. All Windows Phone 7 phones will include the high-performance Snapdragon™ processor from Qualcomm. A broad selection of phones will begin shipping in holiday 2010 with more arriving in 2011, including phones from Sprint and Verizon Wireless. In addition, select models will be available at Microsoft Store locations and from Amazon.
Windows Phone 7, Glance and Go
In today’s busy world we are spending more time heads-down on our phones than interacting with the people we’re sitting next to and missing out on important life moments. Windows Phone 7 was designed to deliver a mobile experience that has the phone working better for people, bringing together the things they care about most and helping them to get things done faster.
Windows Phone 7 breaks the current smartphone convention to help people quickly and easily find and consume data, information and services from the Web and applications. The new phones are distinguished by unique design and integrated experiences built from Microsoft’s deep portfolio such as Xbox LIVE, Microsoft Office Mobile, Zune, Windows Live, Bing and more.
For example, the customizable Start screen with Live Tiles is a personal experience, showing people their own content. The Live Tiles come to life with real-time updates from the Web such as news, appointments or the status of friends. New Live Tiles can be easily created from whatever content a consumer wants, such as applications, websites and music.
Fueling New Experiences
Windows Phone 7 marks a new era in mobile gaming as the first phone1 to put the power of Xbox LIVE into the palm of people’s hands with a blockbuster lineup of game titles from award-winning publishers. In addition to the titles already announced earlier this year, Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) today announced the first wave of EA games coming to Windows Phone 7 this fall. As part of Microsoft’s managed portfolio of Xbox LIVE titles, all EA games for Windows Phone 7 will be Xbox LIVE-enabled. EA will deliver a portfolio of titles that offers something for every mobile gamer, from casual to core, including “Need for Speed™ Undercover,” “Tetris®” and “The Sims™ 3.”
Windows Phone 7 is also the first to offer the Zune music experience on a phone: People can play their music collection, synced wirelessly from their PC, or stream or download new tunes from Windows Marketplace. An optional Zune Pass subscription is available.
Search is made easier with a dedicated button to help people find what they need, whether in contacts, in Marketplace, in e-mail or on the Web. From the Start screen, the Search button delivers Bing for mobile, delivering Web results, local information, maps, directions and more.
The Windows Live solution helps people manage pictures, Windows Live calendar, Office OneNote Mobile and more. The free Find My Phone service new on Windows Live can remotely ring, lock, erase and show the location of your phone on a map. HTC 7 Trophy goes on sale in Germany from €0
German retailer A1 has jumped the gun a bit and has made the HTC 7 Trophy available in its online store. The handset will be available from €0 on contract, and offers of course a 3.8 inch screen, and will be available in any colour, as long as its black.
Early punters also stand a chance to win a Xbox 360, but A1 notes, rather cleverly, that delivery may be delayed until the 21 October.

Samsung Omnia 7 outed also

Hot on the heels of the LG Optimus 7 we have the Samsung Omnia 7, with very similar specs, including a 1500 mAh battery, which claims 520 minutes talktime or 390 hours.

Zune 4.7 now out, provides access to Zune Marketplace in many countries
The desktop Zune software is set to play a central role in management of Windows Phone 7 phones. Prior to the worldwide launch today the software has now been updated to version 4.7, with users getting the prompt to download the latest version for early this morning.
The software so far provides access to 86 applications, according to Engadget, which can be loaded on up to 5 devices sharing the same Live ID.
Of note is that the software now also allows users in non-US countries to access the marketplace for music also, which of course finally provides a desktop alternative for purchasing music in many countries.

LG blog leaks LG Optimus 7 early
LG’s UK blog has let slip early details of the LG Optimus 7. The press release has been pulled already, but the Google cache still exists here, and we have posted it below, before it disappears from there too.
The press release confirms 16 GB of RAM, 720p video recording and an interesting voice to text feature for Facebook and twitter, which I am sure will result in some very interesting posts.

Telstra promoting HTC Mozart, LG Optimus 7 in giant window Display

So it starts. We know Australia and New Zealand are always a bit ahead of the world, and on this occasion they were also the first to start promoting Windows Phone 7 handsets, in this case the HTC Mozart, leaked first for Telstra many months ago, and what appears to be the LG Optimus 7 in a gigantic window display, inviting users to come in and try it themselves.
Hopefully this means also we will see live handsets in stores.

Angry Birds coming to Windows Phone 7!

The benchmarks of what makes a relevant gaming platform keeps changing with every new fashionable game, but at the moment it rests very securely on Revio’s gigantic hit game, Angry Birds, now available on iPhone, Android and Symbian.
It should therefore be a gigantic solace to bloggers who measure the potential success of a platform by the presence of one game that Angry Birds appears also to be heading to Windows phone 7, with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 page featuring the icon hidden in plain sight next to Tap tap Revenge and MoTweets.
If Microsoft can get the hit games on Windows Phone 7 they can remain a very relevant platform to consumers, despite having only 1% of the catalogue at start. This is something Microsoft would have particular experience with from their fight with the PS2 at the start of the decade, and we know how that turned out eventually in the next generation.

Microsoft outs Samsung Cetus as Samsung Focus by accident

Leaving even less for Microsoft to announce on Monday, Microsoft just leaked the official name of the Samsung Cetus via an add on their Windows phone page here.
It appears the Samsung Cetus will in fact retail under the name Samsung Focus, continuing the focus
on consumer features such as music and pictures we have seen from other handsets and their code names.
Are our readers relieved the Cetus has finally acquired a more palatable name? Let us know below.
