HD7 Life News Series: Multitasking… Back Button Good Enough for now

Windows-Phone-7[1]

Have you heard that Windows Phone 7 does not have multitasking? Well I haven’t. I have been using my new HD7 for about a week now, and I am loving every moment of it. I have a few friends with Android devices like the Evo4G and Epic4G, I also have iPhone 4 owning friends that say “Your phone is stupid without multitasking.” Now if that annoys you, then you are on your own; because when they say that I just open and app, go back home, open another app, then hit back button twice and return exactly where I was with the previous application. Now if that doesn’t sound like multitask, then I don’t know what that is.

I mean it is a bit harder to do this form of Multitasking than Android and iPhone can do, but to be honest, the smoothness of this OS is well worth the extra seconds it would take to switch apps.

Well guys, I hope that shows you a little insight as to how we still have multitasking in Windows Phone 7 without technically having it.

First Thoughts On My New HD7

2010-11-08 21-23-16.800

Well guys, like I said… I am back. Today after work, I went straight to the T-mobile store, and picked up a new HD7 to replace my T-mobile G2 (Android got boring fast). Well I am here to say that this is certainly a trade up and I will tell you why.

What Device Are You Getting Tomorrow?

htchd7-amazon[1]

What device will you be getting tomorrow? In Europe and much of the world, Windows Phone 7 has been out and everyone has had their go at it. Tomorrow the United States and Canada gets a try at the next big thing, and I am personally myself a new HD7. I tell you this because I would like to know what device you are getting come launch day tomorrow.

The T-mobile HD7 seems to be the most anticipated by American’s, and with deals coming from not just T-mobile but Amazon, getting this device should not be too hard. I am getting my device from T-mobile without a contract for $499.99 which means $539.97 with tax included (I should know, I just bought a G2 two weeks ago). Amazon will be pricing this new device at $169.99 with a new contract for T-mobile.

Regardless, please comment below and tell us your device choice and maybe we have something in common.

I’m Back and Better Than Ever

back-future-5[1]

If you haven’t noticed, I have been gone for a while. Well after a few weeks off, I am back and better than ever. I left for some serious (well serious to me) reasons:

  1. My writing became generic with no emotion in it.
  2. I stopped caring about the content as much as just getting the work done.
  3. Windows Phone news became super boring to me, and Android became very attractive.

Now those are the three main reasons why I left. Now here is why I am back:

  1. Android is not as great as it might seem, I should know, I own the Desire Z (well G2).
  2. HTC finally brought devices that I want bad.
  3. I missed you guys.
  4. I have some giveaways and reviews I have to get off my chest.

So there you go. It took me three weeks to figure out I missed you guys and came back. Now what’s next? Well I am not quite sure. I might return to my daily work or just do reviews and important news. Personally I am looking forward to getting my HTC HD7 (if you follow me on twitter @WMPerson, you would know), and I am so excited that I am getting a few WP7 devices for reviews from HTC soon just for fun.

What do you think about me leaving? Are you happy about me returning or do you prefer it stay Surur only? Let me know. Otherwise, it’s good to be back.

Black CorePlayer Theme Looks Better Than The Original

Unlike sequels of movies, this one is actually better the the original. The original being the standard gray theme with button’s everywhere, is now a look of the past after this was released. Made by some guy that lives at XDA, this theme gives gives CorePlayer a new looks with black and a glossy design.

Noobs How To:
Download the .zip file below,
Don’t follow the instructions of the old .doc.( this file is obsolete)
Unpack the .cab and transfer it anywhere to you device,
Start the cab file,
Select the drive of your Coreplayer installation,
Fire-up your CorePlayer.
Enjoy.
What’s next:
YouTube, if I can find the solution.
Landscape mode update. But no hurry there?
This is part one, so anything is possible.
Suggestions:
Black Grease 0.40 first public release
Black Grease 0.42 style update
Black Grease 0.42.2 very minor adjustments+added .cab version update: 12-03-10
I want to thank:
DavidVD for his assistance with some graphical parts of the skin. Cheers mate!

If this all seems like a place you want to be, then headover there and download it.

Windows Phone 7 Vs Windows Mobile 6.5.5

Well Pocketnow has been pushing out video demos of Windows Phone 7 and now we have a video comparing the old to the new. In the video Brandon has an HD2 running 6.5.5 with a custom ROM, like everyone else, and using basic Snese UI without cookie.

The video comparison seems to cover everything, so I will just let you guys watch and enjoy. Do not forget to comment and tell us if its “out with the old and in with the new” for you.

Why only 8GB’s

Cheap-MicroSD-Cards[1]

With just about every device we see being leaked sporting an 8GB internal memory card, that has me thinking. Why would companies work so hard on making a phone, but then stop short when it comes to memory? I mean memory is something that’s cheap, and 16GB would be a number that’s not the greatest but at least acceptable..

These questions have lead me to the following answer:

1) Clouds: Microsoft made clear in most of their interviews and demoes that cloud connections will be very important in WP7, and will allow you to sync just about everything you need to a server and back to your phone. This means you will have very little store on device, but you will always (if you have a data connection), be able to acquire your stuff (images, files, and more). With that solution, it means only videos and music need to be put on the actual device, and as we all know… 8GB is just about enough for that.

That is my first reason, and I think my best explanation why all these devices have merely 8GB. Also smaller means faster…

2) Multiple versions: Apple and Samsung has been doing this for some time now. Releasing a device with two or three different storage versions, which differ by price. This solution means you could save a bit on your car insurance by getting the smallest available (or switching to Geico). Now since we have yet to hear of any officical word about the specs of any Windows Phone 7 device that will be launched next month (except for the Lighting), this is still a possibility.

3) First gen devices are not suppose to be great: I am not quite sure about this answer, but it still could be true. It could be possible that Microsoft said “Hey HTC, ASUS, Samsung, and LG… Chill out. Make something simple, and after launch and our massive ad campaign, kill them with awesomeness”. In this sense they are saving the best for later in the year, or next when the updated version is released with some requested features.

Those are my 3 possible answers to why the spec sheets aren’t that great. I also want to answer a comment I saw on the previous article with the HD7’s spec sheet. The comment pretty much said why is the HD7 just the HD2 with the same things and WP7. Let me ask you this… Why did the TouchPro1 and TouchDiamond1 have the exact same specs as the TouchPro2 and TouchDiamond2? We already know HTC sometimes does that with their devices, so that does not always come as a surprise to me when the spec sheet does not change much.

What do our readers you think about these theories? Let us know below.

Game Center Vs Xbox Live Hub

gamecenter_vs_xbox-wp7_featurebyfeature-590x863[1]

Well I will keep this one short. We all know that Apple made the game center just to get a stab at the new Xbox Live hub, but a blog finally got the chance to put these two future competitors head to head.

The results are not surprising… Xbox Live hub wins, and that is for a good reason.

At the end of the day, Apple is not really going to have a chance against the Xbox hub, but I applaud them for trying.

Black GTX For SPB In The Building And Updated

image

GTX is one of the best looking theme that I personally have ever had running on my HD2, well now imagine that but in all black. This change has been made by doc3000, who took the basic GTC aspects and changed it to give the user a blacked out looking design. Unlike the original GTX this is for SPB, so that limits who can really use it.

This theme is very well made, looks nice and will go with the HD2’s black build but I do not think I will be using it. I love the black and white too much on my HD2 but that is just because no one else that I know has it.

If this black look is something you have been waiting for… Download it and comment with your thoughts.

HTC Trophy Now With A Mug Shot

trophy2[1]

It seems we are not the only one leaking news these days. Pocketnow seems to have gotten a little tip from someone that includes an image of what seems to be an upcoming device that will be running WP7. This device does not come with much information, but just a name and a picture.

It’s a bit funny that the title Trophy was once thought of as a Windows Mobile device, but I guess HTC had us going for some time.

Quick question for all the readers… Does it seem like with every leak, the HTC devices are looking better? I do not know, but that is what I have been noticing.

HTC Sense From Desire ROM Video Walkthrough

Well many of you wanted to know a bit more about the video made by Darkstone that was set to private after some time, well now Pocketnow has the solution for us. The video was produced by my friend Brandon and pretty much goes through the Build, and more importantly the new Sense.

Now since we know what Sense will look like in Windows Phone 7, we really do not want it, but there is nothing wrong with humoring others.

Enjoy
