Venturebeat has written a rather long article on how Microsoft sees the importance of gaming on Xbox Live, but completely buried the lead.
Besides Matt Thompson, general manager of developer and platform evangelism for Microsoftâ€™s statement that Xbox Live will be the â€œthe hook that helps sell Windows Phone 7 devices and unseats Appleâ€™s iPhone iOS operating system, BlackBerry OS and Android as the dominant mobile platformâ€, they also go on about how Xbox Live will allows gamers to â€œcarry their online persona into the real worldâ€.
They of course completely miss the importance of the big news â€“ Zyngaâ€™s Farmville is coming to Windows Phone 7!
The iconic game is the most popular Facebook application, with 62 million active users and over 24.6 million Facebook application fans, used by more than 10% of Facebook users, including your mother
Having the game on Windows Phone 7 is clearly a major win, right up there with Angry Birds and Plants versus Zombies
Of course that was not the only game Thompson name-dropped. He also demoed the popular Babylon Twins game at the GigaOm Mobilize conference (video of the game on the iPad after the break).
