Nokia Lumia 710 sold out at Vodafone Portugal

The Nokia Lumia 710 only launched in Portugal a week or two ago, but is already sold out at Vodafone Portugal. The country, where Nokia still has a very strong brand, have been waiting on tenterhooks for the launch of Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 handsets, which might explain the carrier running out of stock so quickly.
Fortunately TMN.pt still has some in stock, so if you are desperately looking for the handset there, try your luck here.

Flo-Rida using a Nokia Lumia 710 in latest video

The Nokia Lumia product placement continues, this time in Flo-Rida’s latest video, Wild Ones, where he is sporting a Nokia Lumia 710 and clearly using twitter, showcasing both the clean lay-out of the software and the easy to use keyboard.
Another Nokia handset, the Nokia Lumia 800, recently showed up in another music video, this time on the other side of the Atlantic, in Tinchy Stryder and Pixie Lott’s Bright Lights. See that video after the break.
In both cases the devices get an impressive amount of screen time, which must have cost a bundle. Hopefully more than us fans are noticing.
According to game data, in Europe the Nokia Lumia 800 is dominating all other WP7 handsets

We all know Microsoft is expecting Nokia to bring volume to Windows Phone 7, but the OEM was meant to lift all boats and cause a general improvement in the sales of Windows Phone 7 devices.
More predictably however it seems, at least according to game data, that Nokia’s Lumia 800 is racing ahead of all other Windows Phone 7 handsets, and according to SurvivalCraft’s game analytics, is dominating the market with 31% of all handsets.
In USA, where the handset is yet to launch (and where Nokia is not a massive brand name of course) SurvivalCraft sessions are dominated by older generation handsets, though the Samsung Focus Flash is starting to make an appearance, indicating that the European phenomena is not just an artefact of getting a new handset.

The implications are of course interesting. The Nokia Lumia 800 is just getting into its stride, while the marketing for the other Gen 2 Windows Phone 7 handsets have all but disappeared. Will we in 3 months see a world where 90% of the Windows Phone market are Nokia handsets, and would this be a good thing or a bad thing?
Let us know your thoughts below.

WIND Mobile announces the HTC Radar as coming soon

WIND Mobile has just announced that they will be getting the HTC Radar 4G on their network. The AWS network has opened a page where users can register to be notified of the release date of the handset, which is their first Windows Phone 7.5 device.
Videotron, another Canadian carrier, had earlier also announced the availability of the handset, which at the time suggested strongly that the HTC Radar would also be coming to WIND. No pricing was announced yet.
It is believed that they will also get another Windows Phone handset in the future, possibly the Nokia Lumia 710.
Register your interest at WIND here.

Samsung not having a press conference at MWC 2012: Its exciting products not to be very exciting?
Samsung has confirmed to PCMag that while they will have a presence at Mobile World Congress 2012 they will not be hosting a press conference there.
In a statement last week however they still said:
"Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012."
The company has confirmed it will not be announcing its new Galaxy S III handset there, and there has been a rumour that they may announce a high end Windows Phone for Europe there.
Without a press conference this seems somewhat unlikely, but still not impossible.
Are our readers still holding out for a high end Samsung Windows Phone for Europe? Let us know below.

Nokia Lumia 710 coming to Finland by the end of February
The Nokia Lumia 710 is “coming soon” to Finland, but Esphoneblog.com has been able to pin it down the launch date a bit more , and report the handset will be reaching the Finnish market by the end of this month.
The Nokia Lumia 800 is selling very well in Finland at the moment, and an even cheaper option is sure to boost sales even more.
At present Esphoneblog does not know which of the 3 main carriers will be carrying the device, but suspects they will all launch simultaneously.

Nokia Lumia 710, cyan Nokia Lumia 800 sold out on Orange UK

Its seems the Nokia Lumia 710 is a pretty good mover, as it is completely sold out on Orange UK. The cyan Nokia Lumia 800 is similarly affected, though the black version is still available.
Interestingly the Nokia Lumia 800 on Orange UK does not have a great overall review score, achieving only 7.9/10, with the handset mainly let down by poor battery life. Hopefully the various firmware updates Nokia has already released to address the issue will go some way to repair this issue.

Windows Phone overtakes Meego in Finland

Amongst Meego fans and Stephen Elop haters in Finland there is still the delusional idea Nokia should have persisted with Meego rather than go with Windows Phone 7.
The rapid adoption by the Finnish public of the Windows Phone 7 Nokia Lumia 800 would therefore come as a shock to them. Since the launch of the handset its percentage of the browser market share has rapidly sped past the Meego-powered Nokia N9, released in September 2011, a full 4 months before the Lumia 800.
At 2.45% of browser share, Finland likely has the highest concentration of Windows Phones. With Nokia loyalty still very high there, we may still see the OS reach 5-10% market share in the next few months.
Now if only the graph of the rest of the world looked like this…
Aint no Saint creating custom painted battery covers for the Nokia Lumia 710
![]()
Swappable back covers are pretty iconic Nokia, so it pretty appropriate that Nokia should be making available custom painted covers for the Nokia Lumia 710.
Nokia has arranged with AintnoSaints to create custom painted covers. They will be offering one off covers, their own tattoo inspired designs and also small corporate branded runs of covers.
The covers will be available in their online shop, where they will be featured heavily.

Dark Forces Team release a fully unlocked ROM for 1st gen Samsung Windows Phones

Cotulla has announced a fully unlocked ROM for the Samsung Omnia 7 and Samsung Focus v1.3 and 1.4.
The DFT ROMs have so far been confined to HTC handsets.
A fully unlocked ROM allows the installation of native software, such as the Windows Mobile Opera 10 browser.
Cotulla warns this release may have some issues with USB and that Over the Air updates should not be installed, as it may overwrite the new boot loader. The ROM is however the latest version of the OS, 8107.
Read more about the ROM, which will likely invalidate your warranty, at XDA-Developers here.
Nokia to release Nokia Lumia 800 Valentines day bundle in US

Nokia has made it just that bit easier for the US Nokia fan to deck themselves out in all things Finland with the announcement of a special Nokia Lumia 800 which bundles the smartphone, a Nokia Play 360 Wireless Speaker, Purity HD Stereo Headset, and an in-ear Bluetooth headset.
The whole bundle will run at $899, which is a bit steep, but one cant put a price on love, can one?
The bundle will be available at Microsoft stores only.

Forbes: Nokia to unveil a new handset at MWC 2012, identity unknown
Forbes is claiming that a Nokia partner has inadvertently revealed Nokia will be announcing a new handset at Mobile World Congress 2012, starting on the 27th February.
The OS running the handset has not been verified, with it either potentially being a European version of the Nokia Lumia 900 or the last hurrah of Symbian, with a successor of the Nokia N8 running the older OS.
The supplier was only able to provide one further detail: The handset offered ”an unusual software feature normally found only on high-end smartphones.”
What do our readers think? A new Windows Phone or an old Symbian phone? Let us know below.

Nokia Sweden takes over Kanal 5 airwaves with Lumia ads
Similar to what Nokia did with Channel 5 in UK (and for which they were ultimately slapped on the wrist) Nokia has integrated their Nokia Lumia 800 ad in the channel name announcement, moving seamlessly from the usual flash into their commercial.
Kanal 5 is one of the biggest TV channels in Sweden, and is just part of Nokia’s push to get their Lumia handsets firmly established in the Nordic region.
