Service Status MTA – a Windows Phone app

This application will show the status of All the services which come under MTA New York in Real time. The interface is based on the METRO UI design specified by Windows phone architecture. It shows the information for the service status of Subways, Rail – LIRR & Metro-North, buses, bridges and Tunnels. For example of there is a change in service of Subway line 7, with a glance the user can tell whether there is a change in service for that line by looking up the subway screen. If more info is required the user the click on the the Change in service link against the line and more details comes up.

Who’s Near Me Wins 2nd Place in Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 App Challenge at WPC 11

A few days ago, nine finalists presented their Windows Phone 7 applications at Microsoft’s 2011 Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angeles, CA in hopes of being recognized as the Best Windows Phone 7 application as part of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 App Challenge contest. The nine finalists were selected by Microsoft’s judges from a pool of over 500 submitted applications based on factors such as feature-set, Metro design, uniqueness, and wow-factor. The event was hosted by Laura Foy, the host of Channel9’s Hot Apps show. The event was recorded and you will be able to watch it on-demand from Microsoft’s Channel9 website sometime in the very near future.

Although all nine finalist applications’ presentations were met with overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience approval, two applications emerged as the clear leaders: Executive Caddie and Who’s Near Me. Executive Caddie is a GPS range-finder and score-keeping application for Golf enthusiasts. The application contains thousands of golf courses nation-wide and puts the most complete collection of course data literally at your fingertips.

You might remember the other application, Who’s Near Me, from one of the articles that we have posted about it over the past year. Who’s Near Me is a proximity-based (location) social network that allows you to anonymously connect with strangers near you in real-time with free text and picture messaging, group chat, and more. This website has been following the Who’s Near Me social network since it was first released for the Windows Mobile platform over a year ago. The network is now also accessible on Windows Phone 7, as well as any mobile or desktop web browser at whosnearme.net. With now over 320,000 users, the network has grown significantly in the past year since we first reported about it.

The final results of the contest were Executive Caddie in 1st place, with Who’s Near Me behind it at 2nd place. 3rd place was awarded to the “Push To Start” application.

Finally, a Windows Phone 7 app for car lovers. Jacksonville.com, the website of the Florida Times-Union, has released an app called Pod Rods that tracks the latest cars and industry news.

It also also has some Jacksonville-centric features such as a weekly calendar of area cruise-ins, car shows, road construction and traffic tie-ups.

These guys are writing about everything from the latest muscle cars to plug-in hybrid trends.

WP7 App Video Review – Dat Piff (Allows You to Listen to Tons of Hip Hop Mixtapes for Free)

This is probably the biggest free on-line library for hip-hop mixtapes on Marketplace.

Pros
1.Huge database.
2.The simple UI makes the application very easy to navigate.
3.Including hip hop videos and news.
4.Users are able to listen to music without registering an account.

Cons (Some small flaws)
1.Not all the videos are related to hip hop
2.The video news could not be played because WP does not support flash videos(As demonstrated in video reviews)

Note: The copyright of all the music from Da Piff belongs to Da Piff. Even though you are able to listen to tons of great mixtapes, artists such as Jay Z or Kanye West’s original albums could not be found in this app. But you can still find plenty of their mixtapes.

Video Review of WP7 App – Mars Runner

This is an awesome mini game with breathtaking 3D graphics.
Pros
1.Awesome graphics.
2.Great UI.
3.Nice sound effect and music.
4.Even though it’s a 3D game, the gameplay is still very smooth.

Suggestions
I would suggest the developer to expand the content of the game. For instant, they can add more terrains, enemies, or laser beams on the spacecraft.
